Good.—lt seems that we’ve a woman
or two in the city who are capable of
handling the reins of government, as
will be shown by what follows :
Our reporter was around hunting a
house far a friend, and called to see a
family, who were preparing to vacate a
cosy dwelling.
As the ‘ door stood open, reporter
walked in without knocking, and his
eyes straightway lighted on the dame of
the household, who was making frantic
lunges with a broomstick at some object
under the bed.
“Good morning* madam. Ah I you
have a troublesome cat under the bed?”
“Troublesome cat?—no, sir! It is
that sneaking hnsband of mine; and I’ll
have him out, or break evey bone in his
body I”
“You will, eh?” said a faint voice un
der the bed. “Now, Susy, you may
rave and pound, and pound and rave,
but I'il be dogged if I’U come out from
under .this bed while Tve got the
tpirit of a man about me.”—Waynes

Wouldn’t Give in.—An English
Clergyman relates the following amusing
anecdote:
The- mpst singular reply I ever lis
tened to was made to me last summer,
upon the becasion of onr school feast,
by a carter boy of about fourteen.
Everybody Lad exhibited a tolerable
appetite, but this^fay- Led 4«t«i wrfie*-'
pletion, so that when I saw him tilth
very suddenly pqle, and attempt to arise
from the table, I began to fear he had
made himself ill,
“What’s the matter, my dear boy ?”
inquired I, while a sympathizing throng
of philanthropic ladies, who had been
acting as waiters upon the company)
gathered around the sufferer. “Do you
feel unwell ?” .
“My stomach aches, sir,” replied the
boy, with great distinctness.
“Dear me,” said I, almost suffocated
with my endeavors to suppress laugh
ter, “don’t you think you had better go
home?"
“ Nofno, sir,'” replied the lad, with
determination. “It will aclje a precious
sight more afore I. ha’ done with him.”
And I am bound to say that he
did not submit to the threatened dicta
tion, but devoured two slices of cold
pudding in addition to his previous sup
plies, ps well as an enormous bunch es
bread and cheese.
“Bostixg.” —They had elegant ar
rangements in “ Boating” for the pur
pose of sighting the meteoric shower,
that didn’t visibly occur. We copy from
the Post-. “Tickets far admission to
the Common during the meteoric dis

and at the usual places. The audience
is respectfully requested not to encore
the * showers’ as time will not admit of
their repetition. Refreshments 'urnished
by Mr. Smith in the saloon, of tbe big
tree, at moderate rates. Admission lo

Won ah’s Aft*,— Hq* lo.ag...Eve, the

is a curious, fact that in sacred history,
the age, death, and burial of but one
woman, SarAtyitte Wife Iff Abraham, iff
distinctly noted. Woman’s age, ever
since, appears to have been u 'subject
for history or discussion.
