Mr. Bvrd moved to reconsider the bill
(lost yesterday), to define the liability of
debtors iu certain cases. Mr. Byrd
spoke iu favor of his motion.• Mr. Edge
called (lie previous question. The mo
tion was lost by, yeas 53, nays 77.
The Special Committee, to whom was
referred ffie question of a removal of
the Penitentiary, reported: They re.
commend a Committee to investigate
the wltole matter, and report to the next
Legislature.
SPECIAL ORDER.
The bill to alter and amend the Act
organizing the County Court..
Mr. Ford offered a substitute to abol
ish the County Court.
The original bill was taken up bi
sections. After spending three hours
perfecting it, Mr. J. J. Jones also offered
a substitute for the first bill, as also for
the substitute of Mr. Ford.
Mr. Jones withdrew his substitute.
Mr. Ford's substitute was decided out
of order.
Mr. Glenn offered a substitute, to
strike out all of the original bill, organ
being tho County Court, except the
iwacting clause.
(Without taking a vote on the bill or
substitutes, the House adjourned till o
o’clock this afternoon.

The Georgia Conference,after a week’s
pleasant session at Americas, adjourned
on Wednesday evening, the (itli inst.
The Conference was divided into the
North and South Georgia Conferences;
the name of the Church was changed
from “Methodist Episcopal” to “Episco
pal Methodist,” and lay representation
o pie red.
Bishop Andrew was present the major
part of the time.
One of the recently elected Bishops,
McTyiere, presided with great ease, dig
nity, and acceptability.
The following are the appointments
made for the ensuing year, in this city

c luqueiit and distinguished preachers in
his State, and, we may say, in the
South, has, by special request, been
tralistened to the Memphis, Xeun., Con
ference, and will he assigned to (Wes
ley) one of the first churches of the
■‘Mound Ciiy.’*
The Memphis Christian Adcoeatc has
the billowing jn relation to Dr. Matin :
Dr. Mann sustains the reputation of
ail' alile and eloquent preat-la r, a faithful
pastor, tnela cultivated gentleman. He
is a gr#luutd of Randolph, Macon Col
lege, and received the Doetomle of
Divinity from the University of Georgia,
lie has served acceptably and succcss
tuiiy in the most prominent churches of
Georgia. Coming to this growing city
in the maturity ol his life and ministry,
he will i liter upon afield of labor, in
which, With the Divine blessing, lie may
be the menus ol eUv-eting great good.
Socially, Dr. Matin will be a tine acquisi
tion to our community—as will lie bis
family likewise. His first wife was a
daughter ol the venerable Dr. Loviek
Pierce, and sister ol the Rev. Bialop
Pierce. I lie present Mrs. Maim, whose
former huslinud—Maj. lieuttie, of Au
gusta, Oil.—was killed in battle during
the first year ol the wav, is said to be a
very superior lady, ot tine accomplish
ments, as well as of deep piety.
The -North uud South Georgia Con
ferences meet next year, respectively at
Atlanta and Gavannali.
