TUESDAY MORNING Dee. 25. !S«« “ Love on the Brain.” The sprightly “ I-oralof the Atlanta (0».) A’rd thus discourses on this sub ject, IVe oiuit the exordium mid pero ration, and give only the body of the dissertation : Ordinarily, the patient, while laboring under this disease, is untit for business. There is a sort of a will o the-wisp figure dancing before his distorted vision, com. in' between him and his daily labor, unfitting him for a sober computation of units and tens and making a Balaam of him generally. He suffers a loss of up p,,|it,, to the intense gratification of his landlady. He looks upon bacon and cheese with ultra contempt, and wants some more ethereal, lie thinks about the honey lew of Hybla, and wishes some of the drugstores in the town had a supply. He studies lJ.ron and Moore, and quotes from each with re markable facility. I-ala Rookh becomes a favorite, especially a certain portion tit the fireworshipers. The disease is confined to no particu lar age or station. We had an attack of it when about fifteen. It was so se vere that our mother wanted to give us paregoric. We told her that the pain wasn’t that low down. We recovered in course ot time. Once it broke out fully in the shape ot a certain question to a certain lady. She answered in a mono syllable ot two letters. It brought ns to our senses. It swept the mist from our eyes like fog before a hurricane. We hadn’t expected anyth! g .if the kind, and was sure it had thundered. We looked for the cloud, and saw a large white bird sailing on a pond. Thought we were much the same kind of a bird with our wings clipped. A few days after we told our churn that we didn’t seP anything in that flaunting Dorothy Diddle to admire. And we didn’t. The disease develops most singularly in those who are advanced in years- Any one who has seen an old man in lore has seen Nature's harlcquiu. The old dame gets up another more ludicrous, or more inconsistent. Every one feels like laughing at the poor old fellow's infirmities. We once saw an old man who was suffering from an attac k of it. He was well enough advanced in life to hftve half . dozen- <rnvTt*!ehiMrvn. We knew him well. He was a playmate of our illustrious grandsire, who wasn’t a quartermaster in the revolutionary war. If he had been we would have heen bet ter off than we are now. We had no tic- cd for some time a singularity in his conduct. Me saw him several times with roses stuck in his button's hole. We caught him once reading Burns' Highland Mary. We were out with him once looking at his stock, and we asked him which was his favorite heifer. He said “Widow Wilkins.” The eat was out. We knew what was the matter ; hut whet:, several months after, we saw him washing the dishes, while the widow —that was—nursed the baby, we thought he was cured permanently. Water that Will not Drown. —All travelers, writes a correspondent, hav e mentioned with astonishment the pecu liar buoyancy of the water of Great Salt Lake, and it is truly surprising. No danger of shipwreck need ever cross the mind of those who navigate the lake, for it would be simply impossible for them to sink, if thrown overboard. With my hands clasped together under my head, and toy teet crossed, I floated on the very surface of the lake with at least one-third of ray body above the water. Upon a warm Summer’s day there would not be the slightest difficulty in going to sleep upon the lake, and allowing yourself to be flown about as tho wind permitted ; only one would need an umbrella to keep off the rays of the sun. It has been stated that three buckets of tliis water will yield one hucke of solid salt, but inasmuch as water will not hold above twenty five per cent, of saline matter in solution, and if more he added it is instantly deposited upon the bottom, his estimate is, of course, too large. Un enquiring of the Mormons engaged in procuring salt, they unanimously stated that for every five buckets of water they obtained one buckctof salt, which gives the proportion as no less than twenty p-r cent. No visitor to the lake should omit the bath ; the sensation in the water is most lux urious, and leads one to think himself floating in the air. On the way back to the city it will be as well for the bather to stop at the superb sulpher baths just outside the town, and remove the saline crustations which will have formed upon him, by a plunge into the fine swimming hath, whose only objection is its peculiar odor and its (treat heal and requires a large admixture of cold water. —Acquire beautj>; seek humility, practice economy ; love fidelity. —God gives every bird its food, but docs not throw it into the nest. —Mothers are the most important teachers ; therefore they should he well taught. Difficulties disappear when we boldly face them. —Hope writes the poetry of the boy ; memory that ol the man. THE DAILY PRESS. YOU ||. Dr ups and Modiciucs. I IST Killer. Opinions of the Press, Clergy, Etc. We trill make a fete short ee-trnef from the many Testimonial* u f bttve received from time to time, unsolicited . From Editors. Th« New York I'd a miner, says: Every mother and housekeeper must often art as a family physician in the many ill nesses and accidents that occur among chil dren and servants. For many of these eases, I have used Davis’ Pain Killer, and consider it an indispensable article in the medicine box. In diarrhoea, it has heen used and effected cures. For cuts and bruises, it is invaluable. The Editor of the Christian Advocate , It is a real pleasure t<yis to speak favorably of this article, kuott.it almost uiav«tni% t< be a good and safe remedy for burrs and other pains of tho. h< ly. It is valuable not only for colds in the winter, but for various summer complaints, and should be in every family. A. D. Miller. Editor of Messenger, (ileus Falls. N. Y., says : There is uo imdicine at the present day I value so highly as Perry Davis' Vegetable Pain Killer. I have used it in my family for years; in every instance it has proved a sovereign remedy. I tested its qualities t«-day on a severe burn, and found it all that could be desired. Mr. John Jackson, of the Calais Adver tiser, writes : I know it to be all it is recommended, having used it in my family six or seven years. The Salem Observer says ; No article of medicine ever attained to such unbounded popularity and extensive diffusion. It has penetrated to every part, even the most remote, of the known world, bearing with it its healing influences more potent than those of the spices of “Araby the blessed.” We are informed by our principal druggists, that they sell more of this article for exportation than of any or all others, and that the demand iaconstanty increasing. The Cincinnati Nonpareil, Nov. 14, 1840, says : Some of our most prominent citizens and business men strongly recommend it to the public as an article of great merit and virtue, and that they never knew any medicine to become so deservedly popular in so short a time From Clergymen, l Rev. J. C. Boomer says : I have used Perry Davis’ Pain Killer with great success in cases of cholera infantum, common bowel complaint, brunchitas, coughs, colds, etc., and would cheerfully tccommenil it as a valuable family medicine. Rev. J. G. Stearns, says: I consider it the best remedy I ever knew for dyspepsia. Kev. Edward X. Fuller says: I have witnessed the beneficial effects of your Pain Killer in cases of dysentery and cholera morbus, within a few months past, and would chuerlully recommend its use to such as may be suffering from similar dis eases, as a ttnfr. and effectual remedy. Rev. A. Webster, Editor of the Chritlian Rt a, writes: I have used your Pain Killer for many yours in mv family with much satisfaction. 0028—2 m COKE FOR SALE.
