LITE'S LABORS. • BY CABRIK BELL SINCLAIR. «m draw my hand from Lora's warm oln^, And frasp tho iword of troth, And lay on labor's nobis ahrins Tha energies of jouth j I’ll toy to Memory and Regret. I havwoo lino for tear* ; Thoss’i aarurst work for hand and brain Through all the roming rears.” [ ilary K. llrya a. Lib’s labor—ah ! what is it 7 ’Tit to battle for the good, “And let the human heart enfold Its human brotherhood To struggle with an boueat heart, And ever willing hand, To scatter gentle deeds abroad Throughout a suffering land. To feel for other’s woes as we Would hare them feel for ours ; And strew along the rugged path A few bright fadeless fiowerr. To smooth the furrows from the brow ; To dry the mourners’s tear ; Aid suffer patiently what God Seas fit to send us here. There are blessings to bo scattered In the thorny pathway here ; There are gentle words to soften Every worrow—every care ; And I would never falter ftiough I meet misfortune’s frown ; For they who bear the greatest cross Will wear tho brightest crown ! I would meet tho conflict bravely, I would battle in the strife, And pray to Him who willeth This stern duty of my life; Ob 1 strengthen me, my Father, Let me bow at thy command, And labor in the world for good With earnest heart and band. If I murmur when tho burthen G rows too great for me to bear ; Should I waste one little moment In a useless sigh or tear ; Whoa I fool too keenly pressing In my heart the bitter thorn, Or waslo regret on hopes and joys That are forever gone — Oh ! Tbou that pitiest human woe And human weakness, too, Grant me new strength and courage still Bravely to dare and do ; To look nriSund me in this world Os sorrow and of care, And feel for those who suffer, too, And shed the mourner’s tear. Life's labors nobly done at last Will bring & rich reward, Ah<l blessings crown the heart that seeks To scatter good abroad ; Each has a holy mission here, And happy is the one Who at Life's weary close can seo Its labor nobly done. Then, Father ! only let mo bow In meekness to Thy will; And teach me with unfaltering soul For truth to battle still ; And when in Doath my eye shall turn Upon Life’s setting sun, Oh ! let me fold my hands to rest With all Life’s labors done ! A Mysterious ’‘Little Stranger.’ 1 — About two weeks since an elderly lady ami a younger one arrived at the depot in Taltahasse on the Eastern, or Savan nah train. They had with them another ‘•little passenger’’—an infajit about four weeks old, who, with its clothing and eighteen dollars in money was left to the tender mercies of a negro woman living near the depot. The par ties said they were from New York, and that they were on their way to New Orleans, but would return to Talla hassee in three months to look after their deserted little innocent. They left the iufant with the negro woman with in structions to go to the post office on the the first of every month and call for a letter, which would contain eighteen dollars. Upon taking leave of the infant the younger woman wept most bitterly, and declared that she ‘‘would not part with her own dear child.” We learn that they went from Tallnhasse to St. Marks, ana there embarked in a common fish ing smack tor Apalachicola.
