Unyyrstrd bg it bat a Mat it •* maid to I for Enritti £ooo* BY CAKMR BSUI BIKCI..UR. "Do tho cal® twilight hour—tb« tlmo When Naturo lull* thowcury world to rwt! Tho start, like wntioola on high, are bonding o'er roe now j and, lured one I have cornu at this sweet erasing hoar To keep with thee a holy tryst; for thon Didst tell me if in snob an hour I’d Wait tor thee, thy spirit would come back To moot and Mu* mo hare. 'Tit lust one Year—one little year, sinee thou wort dead, But, oh ! to me an endless age of torture aud Os pain ; for all the anguish of a breaking Heart is told iu that short sentence — Thou art dead! And will Death never Throw those icy fetters off? will the dull Be lilted never more from those bright Ryes ? And will I never gate upon the Beauty of thy fair young face? They tell mo thou Art dead ! but oh ! it seems an idle tale To mo. I never saw the icy drops that gathered On thy brow, nor caught the last farewell That lingered on thy lips, nor felt the Pressure of thy hand in mine in that Good-bye! Ah ! only stern hearts gath ered Bound thee then, or faithful comrade Bent above the dying soldier’s couoh ! Soothing, perehanoo, with some kind word The dying hour, and stranger hands it Maybe, made for thee an humble grave ! 1 may not come, oh ! loved one of my soul! To twine the sweet spring flowers in gar lands O’er thy grave, or wet the summer turf Above it with the offering of my tears. 1 may not tread the battle-field where Thou art sleeping now in all thy glory ! But oh ! my spirit will go forth to meet Thy own, and ever at the holy twilight Will hold its sacred tryst with thee. I’m bending new Above thy pictured face ! and o’er a little Tress of sunny hair —the last thy fingers Twined, I pour my bitter tears ! I’ve pressed • Upon the sacred page, where last thy Hand did trace these words of love, a Little faded flower that thou didst pluck And send me from afar. And boro upon The snowy page thy hand bath traced “Thine only love /” aud in these simple ■Words—and in this faded flower I read thy last farewell ! And here I Press ray lips to seal this vow of luve To thee in death. Oh ! thou didst Bless me for the heart I gave to thee Iu all its purity and truth, vowing To keep it as a holy thing through all the Changing scenes of life. Oh ! could Ito Another give the love that onco was thine ? No ! no ! to me there was but one path Beautiful in life —the path that led To thee ! One dream of love aloue that Made my young heart glad ! That Dream of Love is perished now, And with it all that made life Beautiful to me. Hope’s withered Flowors now lie above that iittle sod ; And on that sacred shrino—a lover’s Pulseless breast—is pillowed now a Maiden’s broken heart! No ! loved one ! Never will I break the pledge I Gave to thee ! Tho world may strive To lure me on with its decoilful Smiles, and other hearts may bow In worship at my shrine ; but never Can it hush within this breaking heart These memories of thee, or win this heart Os mine back to the living now ; for Ileicho sleeps in a soldier’s narrow Grace has all of llfo »ud lo*©, ««a Hope from this poor heart of mine ! They tell me that My name in death was last upon Thy lips ! that thou didst kiss my Pictured face and say : ‘‘Farewell ! we’ll Meet agaiu.” So angel one ! I’ll keep This love for thee till we shall bo United in tho world above ! So shall My lips in death thy pictured image Kiss, and murmuring thy name, tbou’lt Fold my angel wings ground me there And bear me with thee to thy home Above ! for thou wer’t mine in life ! And mind in death ! and mine Ayabi in Heaven ! % Facts Worth Remembering.—A cor respondent gives the following facts worth remembering: It is worth while for all farmers eve rywhere to remember that thorough cul ture is better than three mortgages on their farm. 'That an offensive war against weeds is five times less expensive than a defen sive 6ne. That good fences always pay .better than law suits with neighbors. That hay is a great deal cheaper made in the summer than purchased in the winter. That a horse who lays his ears back and looks lightning when any one ap proaches him, is vicious. Don’t buy him. That scrimping the feed of fattening hogs is a waste of grain. That over fed fowls won’t lay eggs. That educating children is money lent at a hundred per cent. That one evening spent at home in study is more profitable than ten in lounging about country taverns. That qows should always he milked regularly and clean. That it is the duty of every man to take tome good, reliable, entertaining paper, and pay for it promptly—of course. Just Married. —There is a class of unsophisticated tourists that daily catch the eye of the railway conductor and old travellers. They have private rooms engaged at the stopping places, and im agine that they have matters so well arranged as to escape detection; and yet how easy it is to the careful eye to tell how many days, or even hours, they have been married. Their dress de tects them in part—so neat and symmet rical. If the parties have good taste, all business is abandoned; and she who was a fashionable belle last winter is now posi tively more like a young Quakeress in a simple travelling dress of mouse color. There is a sort of guiltiness in the way that arm steals around, first the top of the seat back, then gradually closer and in silent acquiescence on the part of the bride, that tell the whole tale. Indeed, she rcveuls the story most quickly ; her shoulders incline jnst a little, while she imagines she is sitting uprightly toiler bearded partner. For a few hours thus they travel ‘ but in the long run the head gravitates to the husband’s shoulders, and there it will nestle innocently and confi dingly in the response of a newly found faith, ns well as the happiness ol honest, truthful love. And these young folks fancy themselves lost in the crowd, unno ticed and unknown, and with the secret that they are just married their own aloue. Blessed innocents ? —Col. Black, Collector of Internal Revenue for Missouri, reports that most of the distillers have suspended opera tions, owing to the uncertainty of the action of Congress on whiskey. This is news, indeed, for if there is any one thing that Congress 13 certain upon it is the whiskey.J New Furniture Store! M. M. BEHVJAMIKT, agent, .
