Indeed, all vegetalton .8 suffer in? from the excessive ram, and the irruption to labor, which., giving the grass a fearful start- The ram on Saturdar was accompanied by a violent dorm of wind, which, from the prostrate trees about town, and thu tangled con dition of •‘garden truck.” must have been damaging to the neighboring plantations. , ' Registration is now m progress under the Miiitarv Bill. The number regis tered daring the first three days, at the precincts adjoining the city, was .40, of which 16.5 were while and 580 were colored. Registration will commence in the city on the 241 b. The proportion indicated above is not probably a fair average of the result in the country districts, as both these precincts are in the suburbs ot the city, where the black population has colonized ” since freedom,” pretty extensively- There is, however, a deplorable amount of indiffer ence manifested by the whites, many of whom appear to regard it a foregone conclusion that Radical loyalists, of the Hunnicut and Bryant stripe, are bound to have things their own wav in the reorganization. It evidently need not be so in Georgia, for the blacks are outnumbered by the whites, who, under htanbery’s decision, are entitled to register. But the strength of old pre judices and new jealousies prevents the cooperation of the whites, while the Loyal Leaguers and their allies are working like beavers. Tlur- has never, in the history of old party conflicts in the Stale, been mani fested a more bitter and inflammatory spirit than that exhibited toward ex- Governor Brown, who, from the first, advised the acceptance of the Miiitarv Bill. Both ot the old papers here have vied with each other in ridicule and invective aimed at him; though the Chronicle and Sentinel is practically oil his line—deeming the acceptance ot the Military bill a necessity—the chief dif ference being that the Chronicle and Sentinel waited for the action of the .Supreme Court, while Governor Brown did not. The Daily Press. which has been on Governor Brown's line, has shared the ungenerous and unjust re proach leveled at that eminent gentle man, hut moves steadily forward, con tent, doubtless, to await the issue of events, which are pretty sure to vindi cate the wisdom aud prudence of its course. Quite a savage war of words is being waged between the Constitutionalist and a writer signing himself “Tax Pafer.'’ It would take too much space to tell the whole story, but the author of the editorial in Saturday’s Conslitution aist is denounced as a liar in Sunday’s Daily Press by “Tax Payer,” and in pretty much the some terms hy a “Member of Council.” It is, in plain English, an issue between the Blodgett and anti-Blodgett factions here, both of which are strong, earnest, and uncom promising, and it will he a relief to the reading community when the contest is transferred to some other field than the newspapers. Our Street Railroad is at least deemed a settled fact. The contracts have been made for its construction, and the work is to commence in about three weeks. It is to extend in a circuit through Broad and Greene streets, connecting with each in the upper and lower part of the City, with lines to the Sand Hills and other suburban localities. The City is indebted to the untiring efforts of Col. Cole, the thorough-going Superintend ent of the Georgia Road, for the inau guration of this enterprise. Colonel C.s admirable management of the Georgia Road, and his enlightened public spirit, have rapidly advanced him to a high place in the esteem of our citizens. The Charleston, Memphis, and Topeka Railroad is now a topic of much interest here, the immediate object being a road from Atlanta to Decatur, in Alabama a distance of about two hundred miles, forming almost an air line from Charles ton, via Augusta, to Memphis. From thence it is designed ultimately to con uect from Memphis with the North and •Souih forks of the Pacific Railroad, which are to unite near Topeka, and term at Charleston the shortest Atlantic connection with the great national hieh ,m' T ' L "! e J Can bedo " e - 'lie present impoverished condition of the South, in clntrL 118 Cr eat pro j f ' Ct - s;IVH 10 eon it h r Pu u ? ilt,en,ion "P on i' i hut canit l? Y. rnh2o—ly flip A YOUNG LADY RETURN ING to her country home, after a sojourn of a few months in the city, was hardly recognised hv her friends. In place of a course, rustic, flushed face, she had a soft ruby complexion of almost marble smooth ness, and instead of twenty three she really appeared but eighteen. Upon inquiry as to the cause of so great a change, she plainly told them that she used tho CIRCASSIAN BALM, and considered it an invaluable acquisition to any Lady’s toilet. By its use any lady or gentleman can improve their personal appearance an hundred fold. It is simple in its combination, as Nature herself 13 simple, yet unsurpassed in its efficacy in drawing impurities from, also healing, cleansing, and beautifying the skin and complexion. By its direct action on the cuticle it draws from it all its impurities, kindly healing the same, and leaving the surface as Nature intended it should be, clear, soft, smooth, and beautiful.
