The Murder of Air. Price.
Our readers will remember the cir.
cumstances of the murder of tho above
gentleman. Since tiie sad occurrence
vigilant efforts have been made for the
arrest of the parties implicated. Last
Sunday week, two negroes, supposed to
be the murderers, were arrested and
kept in the lock up until yesterday,
when they were brought before Hon.
Foster Blodgett, Joe. Reynolds, and
R. M. Phinizy, Esqrs.
Glaborn Page and Enoch Emanuel,
colored, were the only parties examined
for the prosecution. In their evidence,
they stated they were present at the
time of the murder.
The case will be continued to day.
We are inlornied that Mr. J. L.
Palmer, who has oil different occasions
rendered valuable aid in ferrettiug out
depredators against the laws, was the
principal in the arrest of these parties.
Others, who are complicated in the
murder, are still at large.
A Benefit for lln: Traveller*.
The managers of the great Atlantic
Cos Ist Line Railway have marie a change
in the time of travelling from Augusta
to points North, by this route, whereby
an entire train runs through from Au
gusta to Wilmington, with continuous
connections to all points North. Pas
sengers have every cjmfort, being pro
vided with elegantly fitted sleeping cars.
Also arrangements will soon be com
pleted so that pgssengers can go by
Wilmington to Portsmouth, or by Rich
mond to Aquia Creek, without changing
cars. On the Weldon road, eating
restaurants have been introduced, which
are highly spoken of. The expeditious
manner in which a traveller is trans
ported on this popular line of railway to
almost any given point is gratifying,
nnd the udvantaecs of safety aud com
fort are attested by the large travel over
this route in preference to others.
Mr. P. H. Langdon is deserving of
special praise for his efforts iu this
matter, and his known ability in the
management of the Southern Agency,
is worthy of encouragement.
Mr. W. J. Walker, General Agent ot
the line from here to Wilmington, is an
attentive and accomplished officer, and
will render every aid to make his trav
ellers enjoy their journey.
Mr. Isaac Levy, an old and respected
citizen of Augusta, is no stranger to his
post as Local Agent, and is at all times,
prompt at his place of duty. He can be
found at the store of Levy A Jacobs,
Broad street.
Death •* Brv. Mr Key.
We have received a communication
relative to our account of the manner
of the above gentleman’s death. It
teems that the deceased had been in ill
health, aud had given evidence of
mental derangement some days previous
to the sad evont. “No one,” says the
writer, “who kuew his kind and gentle
nature, his religious views, his Christian
character, and his uniformly correct
deportment, would hesitate to believe
this statement, though, iu the absence
of such evidence, the public muy, and
hence it is given.”

Sudden Death.
The Macon Telegraph states that a
white man. named James MeGallaglian,
was found at the passenger depot on
Mondpy, in such a weak and debilitated
state that he could not walk. Ou
stating that he had no menus to obtain
a shelter he was taken to the guard
house, where he was kindly eared for-
He was miserably emaciated—in other
words, a complete bundle of bones—
and seemed to have but little life in
him. He stated that he once resided in
Macon, though he did not state from
whence he lately came. About 1J a.m.
the gurrd in attendance heard the man
call for water. The water was given
him, and he was advised to try and
sleep, and said he would try. His sleep
was soon “ the sleep that knows no
waking,” for he was found dead shortly
after 4 a.m.

The Charleston Daily News chronicles
the following, which occurred in that
city on Sunday evening last:
A youth indulged in the ancient but
not altogether safe pastime of “riding
on a tail the rail being that of a
banister. He lost his balance, and a
young lady relative, sitting in the piazza
at the time, observing it, rati to bis
rescue; but he was too heavy, and by
his weight unfortunately dragged her
over, and both fell from the second
s.tory upon the flags, about twenty feet.
Both were insensible. The young
man suffered considerably from contu
sion and shock, but is now out of
danger. The young lady was more
seriously injured. On examination she
was found to have a fracture of the
clavicle, and a violent contusion of the
head. She was considered in a very
critical condition lor forty eight hours,
but is now out of danger.
Who Are The}' !
The Atlanta Intelligencer of yester
day, savs that two females reached that
city yesterday morning on tiie train front
Augusta, and a more helpless or
unfortunate pair we have not seen for
many a day. They were furnished witii
transportation to Atlanta, and are either
the paupers of some other localities, or
there is some villainy attached to their
history. They are aged respectively
twenty five years, and good looking.
One has lost her mind, and is approach
ing maternity, her history being
unknown, and her companion evincing
no disposition to disclose it. The
unfortunate creature is little less than
a maniac, and raved most frantically in
the calaboose, whither she was taken to
be cared for. Her companion seemed
attentive, but has no influence whatever
over her. It is suggested that she is
the victim of some base wretch, and
that the woman in whoso charge she
now appears has been paid to escort
her beyond the gaze of the author of
her wrong. It was thought proper to
send the pair back to their starting
point, and if possible ascertain if some
foul wrong has not been perpetrated.
She was to have been returned on the
Augusta train of last evening. If she is
simply a pauper, and is sent here in
that guise, this community respectfully
protests against other municipalities
foisting such persons upon us.
AUGUSTA MARKET.
Tihjrsday, July 25— V. M.
SPECIE—Is weaker, and we note a de
cline, quoting as Brokers’ rates, Gold buy
ing 13S, and selling at 140 ; Silver buying
130, soiling 132.
COTTON. —Tho market is very
without any perceptible change in prices.
The Augusta market is above that of th e
great metropolis: buyers are not anxious to
invest at present figures, and holders are
not willing to make concessions, thus
making a mutual stand off.
CORN —The stocks are limited and de
mand decreasing. We note sales from depot
at $1.58, and from store at $1.60 per bush.
BACON.—The stocks continue extremely
light, and holders are backward in offering.
There is an active inquiry, and we quote
Shoulders 15J a 16c. per lb., and Clear
Ribbed Sides 18al8£c. Tho market is stiff,
with an advancing tendency.
