Jail Breakers.—Five prisoners broke out of
the Amherst Jail on the 31st of December, by-
soaping their bodies and crowding through a
space which they had made between the bars.
They shoved each other through the burs until
they came to the last, a Frenchman, who came
near sticking in the aperture all night, with a
good chance of freezing to death, us the night
of their escape was the coldest of the season.
They were subsequently retaken.

PROSPECTUS OF THE
DAILY MORNING NEWS,
An Independent Commercial and JVetes Paper, to be
Published in the City of Savannah.
John M. Cooper, Proprietor.
W. T. Thompson,«Editor.
Experience has proven both the practicability and
Usefulness of tho penny Press. Within the tow years
past all the Northern and Eastern cities, ns well as
most of those South and West of us, have been sup.
plied with papers of this description, whose small di
mensions enable their publishers to iaaue them at a
price so low as to place them within the reaeh at nil,
and thus to make them tho best mediums for the gen
eral diffusion of information on all subjects bearing
upon the interests of community. By cheapening the
Press, all have been participants iu its benefits, while
the publishers and conductors, by a greatly increased
patronage, have beon made amply remunerated lor their
expenditure oi capital and labor.
.Believing that the growing prosperity of Savannah
authorizes, and that her interests demand the estab
lishment of a cheap commercial and news medium,
we have determined to publish tho Daily Morning
News ns nearly as possible upon the plan of the penny
Press of the Northern cities.
The Morning Niks will be emphatically n Com
mercial Newspaper, devoted to the diffusion of useful
information on all subjects of popular interest, and to
the advancement of City and State interests, gener
ally ; preserving at. all times a strictly neutral and
independent position in regard to Politics and Parties.
Arrangements huvo been made for giving the paper all
the facilities enjoyed by the best Duily Papers, and
no pains will be spared to make it satis factory iu all its
departments, und to give it the character of a res
pectable, useful, ttnd reliable Journal.
In view of the groat advantages which] must result
to the citizens and businessman from the establishment
of such a paper iu .Savannah, we feel that we may ask
and safely count upon a liberal support.
'Perms.—The Daily Morning News will be issued
and served to subscribers at $4, per annum, payable
half yearly, in advance ; or, 10 Cents per week, pay
able to the Carriers.
