Interesting Case.—The ease of Shultz vs. the Bank of the State of Georgia, interesting from its antiquity and large amount involved, will, as wo learn, bo tried on Monday. The counsel employed are General Waddy Thomp son, of South-Cnrolina; Mr. Davis of Alex andria; Mr. McAllister, of Georgia; Mr. At torney General Johnson; Mr. Webster; and Mr. Sargeant.— Washington Union, 2d ult. A Washington correspondent writing under date of Feb., says: Mr. Hillard, of Alabama,is spoken of ns Mr. I Iangan’s successor to tbo new and splendid court of King William, the great champaign orator of Germany, of whom Henry Herne, the great German poet, satirically remarked that when under the influeuce of that exqui site beverage, he imagines himself Emperor of China. The Steamship Crescent Cits/.—This ship which enme into our port in distress, having been dissblcd at sen, will bo shortly prepared to take he • position in the line between New York and Chagros. The injured portions of her machinery were taken to New 'York to be re paired, or renewed, and were brought on, com pleted, at the last trip of the Southerner. The Crescent City now lies at Atlantic wharf, and workmen are engaged in putting the engine in order. She leaves this port for New York on the 13th instant.—Ch. Cour. Feb. 5. NEW YORK, Feb. 1.—Money*Market.—There has been an active demand for money tills morning, and paper has been offered more freely, botlrin the banks and on the street. We quote prime 60 days paper, at. 6 a percent., 60 days a 4 month paper, 7Vi a 8Vi percent; good paper less known, having froth 60 days to 6 months to run 9 to 10Vj per cent. Money on call can readily be obtained at 5 a6 per cent., secured by Government and State securities. There is more doing in Exchange, and generally at firmer rates. Sales of Sterling have been made at 8Vi and some of the leading drawee- ask 834, Fair bills have however, been placed as low as 7%. Francs are active al-5 30 for 60 days, and 5 27Vi for short sight. CHARLESTON, Feb. 5. — Cotton.—There was a pood demand for this article yesterday; and upwards of 2100 bales were sold at former prices. The sales were at extremes, ranging from 11 Vi to 12% cents.
