r Natives of Ireland 112,591, of Germany 55,- 705, of other countries 52,307. The Drury Case was given the jury last eve ning about 6 o’clock, and they were out all night, being unable to agree upon a verdict; at the opening of the court this morning they were brought in, looking very woe-begone, very miserable and altogether objects of com passion, and the foreman stated in dolorous accents, that there was no chance of their agreement, and they were discharged. So tlmto the time and labor expended on the trial has been wasted. They stood on leaving the Court last evening 9 for acquittal, and 3 for conviction. Subsequently it changed to 8 to 4, from which there was no dodging. I am assured that both on this trial and on that of the Astor 1’lace rioters, there were men on the j ur y who were pledged nut to convict under any circumstances! Long, who was convicted of attempting to set f re to the Astor Place Opera House, on thenight of the riot, was sentenced this morning to the State’s Prison for two years. It is said that ef forts will he made to procure a new trial. The notorious' Rynder* who pleaded guilty to a biu:ul and unprovoked assault on Mr. Fuller, iu the Opera House, on the Monday night of the Macready disturbance, was let oft'with ufine of $10! It seems as though courts and juries, were determined to offer a premium fur riot ing and rowdyism. Avery interesting meeting took place lust night at the Astor House, when the bar of the city gave a dinner to Chief Justice Jones, who retires from the Bench, having been defeated at the lust election. All the leading members of the profession were present, and the speech es were witty, brilliant and eloquent. One rarely sees such a combination of talent, as this occa sion drew together Jugde Jones must now be v- rgiug in 70, and has to resume his profession. This is rath rn hard ease The Taylor ball will come off on Tuesday next, at Nihlo’s, and will be a grand affair. Some of our most distinguished citizens arc on the Committees. We have most unseasonable weather—to day, it is foggy, muggy, mild and miserable. CHARLEMAC. tW The Friends and Acquaintance of Mr. FRANCIS CENTRES, and of Mr. Nicholas Hernandez, are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of the former, This Afternoon, at 3i$ o'clock, from his late resilience South Broad Street, opposite St. John's Church. fob 7. Arthur Chinquay str.es that there are upwards of 200,000 Canadians now in the United States, and expresses the opinion that unless some efficacious means are taken to stop the tide of emigration, betoro ten years two hundred thousand more of the citi zens of Canada will have carried to the Ame rican Union, their arms, their intelligence an l their hearts,. The writer adds : It is no part of my present plan to examine the cause o' thri deplorable emigration ; but it. must be always (rue, (hat when a people en ■masse quits its country, it is because that un fortunate country is struck with some hide ous plague—is devoured by some cancer. God has placed in the heart o( man love for his country ; and when a man turns bis back upon his country, and with the eye moistened by t-ars bids is an eternal adieu.it is because some thing essential has been wanting to him in that country. It is because he has wanted bread, room, or just liberty. I leuve others to sny which of the three has been deficient in Cana da. All that I can assure you is, that in the United States these three essential elements of the life of nations are tube found in abundance.” 4,700 | 25 “ 1,300 40 “ 1, “ 1,089 | 60 “ L See., &c., &c.
