murder, of a female andherchld, and only cs raped the gallows by the nearest quirks and and quibbles, by which the law was disgraced and justice cheated. Truly—to adopt] the words of Aaron Clark, “(hit is a great country.” CAHRLESMAC Emigrants for Liberia.—The steamer Rob ert Collins, Capt.' Taylor, arrived yesterday from Hawkinsville, having on board 134 of the negroes belonging to the estate of Maj. Jacob WooD.lato-of McIntosh, and which by his will he emancipated. We understand aeverol ol the expressed great dissatisfaetion on being in formed that they were to be removed to Libe ria, and ranaway. The brig Chieftain, Cupt. Drinkwater, now lying at our whprf, will drop down to five fath om to-day, nnd receive them on board. She is expected to leave in a few days for Liberia The steamship Niagara sailed from Boston on Wednesday for Liverpool.' She left part of her mail behind. Among her passengers are John B. Gluck; Esq. bearer of despatches to the United States Legation at the Court of St. James, and Dr. Du Barry, of the United Stutes Navy, bearer of despatches to the United States. Legation, Canton. Respecting the failure of a portion of the mails to go out by this steamer,* refred to'ajiove, the New York Commercial Advertiser of Wed nesday afternoon has the following; * The great Southern mail, which left this city yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock, for Boston via Stonington, had not arrived at half-past 11 o’clock, this morning. Consequently the mails from this city and the Southern ports, which were intended to go by the Niagara to Europe h va-been left behind. The Niagara left at 11 o’clock, and was outside of Boston light-when the despach was written." Counterfeit Money.-r-We have been request ed to notice the fact that there is now afloat In this community a large amount of spurious bills on the Bank of Charleston, nnd the Com mercial Bank of Columbia, S. C. The bills that, we have seen ure tens on the Bank of Charleston, and twenties on the Commercial Bank of Columbia. The whole face of these hilis differ fVom the genuine notes, and maybe at once detected by persons in the habit of ex amining money with care. t The counterfeiters in the Charleston Bank are signed H. W. Con- mr. President, and A. G. Rose, Cashier, have a clumsy, fat dark-looking head on the upper corner of the left, and a smoking engine on the lower corner of the right hand end. The whole looks like a counterfeit. The bills on the Com mercial Bank have a standing full longth like ness of Gen. Washington on the left and a clumsy,-chuffy, wooly head on the right sband end. These notes are signed by A. Blanding, President, and J. O. Crawford, Cashier. The immunity will do well to look out for the vil- ians thnt ure engaged in circulating this 1 money. There is no doubt an organized gang of them nftre engaged in the business. [ Columbus Enquire, bill inst.
