Another State in Texas.—According to the Brownsville (Texas) Flag of the 30th ult., the question of separation from the State of Texas lias already been entertained and privately dis cussed, by the ihhabitants of the valley of the Rio Grande. Gil tlie other hand, the Houston (Texas) Mercantile Advertiser, of the 2d inst. denounces alike Senators Benign and Foote for proposing to dismember arid divide that State; and says that the efforts of those Senators, ?o far from inducing the people of Texas to sacri fice their territory and destroy forever the in tegrity of the State, will unite them as one man to rpsist to the utmost all interference with their State atfairs. Warning for Apothecaries.—A young lady In South Trenton N. J., a few evenings since experienced a narrow escape from death by having administered to her a spoonful of creo sote, says the State Gazette, which was sent from an Apothecary’s shop* in a vial, very improperly labelled asafoetidu. The mistake svas not discovered until the fatal poison vas entirely swallowed, and the most agonizing pains ensued, heightened by keen and sudden apprehensions of the worst of consequences. A doctor wag instantly sent for, who intended with his usual promptitude and skill,.and before the first blush of morning his fair patient was regarded as out of danger. Two Weeks Sleep.—We witnessed yester day afternoon, at College Hall, the waking up of a young lady of this city, mesmerized by l’rof. Rodgers, who had been in the mesmeric sleep for two weeks, during which lime we learn sjpe has been cured of a painful spinal af fection. The uncle of the young lady, Judge H , formerly Mayor of Cincinnati, cor roborated the above statement. When waked up, the lady was asked how long she thought she had boen asleep, and replied, “about two hours.” When informed it was two weeks, she laughed and seemed milch astonished, and stated that she woe entirely cured of her com plaint.—Cincinnati Times. Mrs. Millen—We have received ano te from a gentleman at Washington who informs us, by authority, thut the statement* relative to the unfortunate Mrs; Miller' having been seen and recog nised in different parts of Virginia, are wholly unfounded. Maj. Miller and her fa ther are now in Washington, uud have diligent ly followed up these rumors and overtaken the parties described, (who in some cases were sus pected with Some show of probability,) but as yet have been totally undble to discover any thing which in the remotest degree favors the supposition that she is still in existence: The parties aHuded to by the Virginiu paper; which we published yesterday, are doubtless the same already several times spoken of by different Virginia newspaper.—Baltimore Suit. ETA new Telegraphic discovery has been S. Thoi made by Mr, Wra.^, Thomas, of Norwich, N. Y. called the Electro-Thermic Telegraph.— The Tribune says—Letter* Patent were granted to Mr. Thomas,Feb. 12,1850. This instrument is said to possess all the advantages of Morse mid Bain’s, and in some respects is far superi or. Mr. Thomas does not use the magnet, which is tho basis of Mose's Electric Magnetic Telegraph, or decompose a salt like Morse and Buin’s Electric Chemical Telegraphs, but works on an entire new principle,- never before ap plied to telegraphing, and is placed beyond all litigation. The principle of this invention is caloric, generated and controlled by the gal vanic battery and with the new manipulator the operator is enabled, it is asserted, to trans act twice the amount of business in the same time as any telegraph now in use. The Pacific Railroad.—On ‘ tho 8th inst. additional subscriptions to this work were made in Si. Louis, amounting to $34,000. The whole amount of stock now taken foots up $259,200, and the Republican expresses its con viction that this amount can be increased to hulfa million of dollars in that city, with very little exertion. The proposition to divert the subscription of $500,000 voted by the citizens of 8t. Louis last summer, to the Ohio and Mississippi Rail road, from that work to the Pacific Railroad, has resulted in the passage of a resolution through the city council, to submit tho propos ed change to a vote of the people. D AGVEBRIAN SKYLIGHT GALLERY.—The Subscriber respect. From the Rio Grande.—The old location of Fort Brown has been changed, on account of being linbte to inundation, and arrangements were making to remove the remains of Major Brown, who died in its defence. The p 'ople of the Rio Grande are desirous to escape from the jurisdiction of Texas, and torm a separate Government. Three Texas merchants had boen attacked by Mexican rev enue officers near Camargo and brutally mur dered. Two iVomen Frozen to Death.—The New Brunswick papers speak of the cold there as intensely severe last week. Two women, nam ed Lindsey and Goodrich, who attempted to cross the river near St. John, were after wards found upon the ice frozen to death. They each had bundles with them, and it is suppos ed that they first became benumed, and wore finally so overcome as to lie down, and never rose again. The Black Rainbow.—The celestial phe nomenon which was seen a few evenings since, and termed by beholder* a "black rainbow,” was seen by several persons in this city, as we are informed by Mr. Ross, of the Express, who was one, as was his assistant, and some ladies, at the same time; all of whom were astonished et the beauty and novelty of this celestial vision. It tormed a superb arch ofblack in the heavens and to the upturned eye, was a sight of won der and majestic grandeur. Until this assurance rom so reliable a source, vye had our doubts as to i s appearance, and are still not satisfied with the propriety of the name by which it is christ ened. A rainbow is that beautiful arch in thf heaven when the sun is above the horizon. * ten by reflection and refraction shows the SPVPn primary rays of light. There is-another appearance called the “lunar rainbow,” when 'be lesser hght rules the night, which is paler 'an that formed by the sun; and still a third fully announces to the Citizens of Suvanrnh uiid its vicinity, thut tie has taken the rooms over Zogbaums & Co’sMusic Store, corner of St. Julian-streetand Market-square, for the purpose of taking DAGUERRIAN LIKENESSES, beautifully Colored, if required, and put up in Splendid Morocco Cases, Lockets, Breast-Pins, McduUions, and Finger Rings ; und ventures to assert, that he will furnish os good, if nut a hot ter Likeness than any other person ever located inSfivannah He feels himself justified,in tile above assertion front u pinctice of several years in Boston, assisted by all the most recent im provements in the art. "Surpassed by none, eud equaled hut by few, This is my motto, and my pictures prove it true." The Subscriber bus, at great expense, fitted up Ins uppartineuts so us to secure light directly from above, whichis considered one of the great est additions in taking perfect Daguerrinn Like nesses.
