MORNING NEWS. Broken-Hearted.—Rev. J. L. Hodge, 'Pas tor of the First Baptast church, Nassau street, delivered a discourse on Sunday afternoon, in which he commented on the recent calamity in Hague street. Among other affecting inci dents, he mentioned the death of Mrs. Gulliver, whose ftmeral he attended that afternoon. Mrs. G., he suid, was an aged lady and had three grandsons in the building ut the time of the explosion. The charred remains of t vo were brought home, and the third had ever since been hanging between time and eternity in con sequence of the injuries received. The old la dy wag as well as her grandsons when they left hopae on Monday morning. She loved them —they were her pride. When the mangled remains of two, and the disfigured body of a third were brought home, site could not weep, but sat in the old arm chair the picture of grief. She continued thus, without giving any extor nal evidence of disease, until Friday morning, when siifl fell asleep—in death. She died of a broken heart. She had long been a member of Rev. Mr> Hodge’s Church, as was also one of the deceased and several other members of the family.—Brooklyn Advertiser. From the Charleston Courier. Dedication for a Jjudy’n Album. PROSPECTUS OF THE DAILY MORNING NEWS, An Independent Commercial and Hews Paper, to be Published in the City of Savannah. BY JOHN M COOPER, D aouerrian skylight GALLERY.—The Subscriber respect- Sir John Franklin.—An offer has been nude by H-nry Grinnell, Esq., to fit out two vessels to go in search of Sir John Franklin, and it is desirable that Congress should in some manner co-operate in the benevolent efforts ma king to discover the missing navigator. Wo see no reason to despair of finding hint, or any substantial cause to give, up the search. He inay be much nearer than many suppose, err closed in the ice; und if the vessels are on the spot in July to take advantage of the first opening, the long lost may yet be discovered. What is the history of the English expeditions to discover a north-west passage, for al this time it is of peculiar interest? John Cabot and his three sons sailed from Bristol in 1497, on a voyage to the northern seas. Since the date of their sa'ling to the year 1800, forty-four expeditions left England fur the same object, but only with partial suc cess. In 1818, the expedition of Captain Ross was fitted out, with greater conveniences and facilities than uny previous one; The ships Were large, of uncommon strength, and all kinds of nautical instruments were liberal ly supplied. Parry’s expedition, in 1819, fol lowed. Iu this expedition was Lieutenant Pranklio, who crossed the continent under un paralleled sufferings. Parry at the end of the year wintered at Prince Regeps inlet. Here ’they were closely locked in the ice, aad with -every comfort. The officers and crews man- -aged to pass their tiase as pleasantly as circum stances admit in the arctic regions. They got i«p amateur plays, wr ite newspapers, apd used •every effort to pass the lime in this dreary sol itude. 1 his expedition claimed to have sailed thir ty degrees of longitude beyond any previous expedition, nnd of having also made many dis coveries of bays, harbors, and inlets. In 1829. Oqptain Ross sailed with his expedition, and returnedl in 1833, having failed in the great object of making the passage, but still making many interesting discoveries. In 1845, Sir John I ranklin sailed in the Erebus, in company with the Terror, b6th screw propellers, and admirably fitted in every respect. The ships were cased with iron and provisioned for a voyage which, with good management, may have lasted four year. The expedition has not been heard from since it sailed, which may ap pear somewhat disheartening; but it was in a quarter of the world in which few adventure, fully announces to the Citizens of Savannah and its vicinity, that he has taken the rooms over Zogbaums & Co'sMusic Store, corner of St. Julian-street and Market-square, for the purpose of taking DAGUERRIAN LIKENESSES, beautifully Colored, if required, and put up in Splendid Morocco Cases, Lockets, Breast-Pins, Medallions, and Finger Rings; and ventures to assert, that he will furnish as good, if not a bet ter Likeness than any other person ever located in Savannah He feels himself justified in the above assertion from a practice of several years in Boston, assisted by all the most recent im provements in the art. ’’Surpassed by none, and equaled but by few, This is ray motto, and my pictures prove it true.” The Subscriber has, at great expenso, fitted up his appartments so as to secure light directly from above, which is considered one of the great est additions in taking perfect Daguerrian Like nesses. The Citizens of Savannah ore respect fully invited to call at his rooms and examine specimens. Pictures taken at reduced prices. W. V PRENTICE, Permanently located. N. To Parents and Guardians. BOY'S READY MADE CLOTHING. EDITED BY W. T. THOMPSON, Author of. “ Major Jones 1 Courtship“ Chronicles of Tincville“ Sketches of Travel^-c. Experience bus proven both the practicability and usefulness of the penny Press. Within the few years past ail the Northern und Eastern cities, as well ns most of those South and West of us, have heen sup plied with papers of this description, whose small di mensions enable their publishers to issue them at a price so low as to place them within the reach uf all, and thus to make them the best mediums for the gen eral diffusion of information on al! subjects bearing upon the interests of community. By cbeapeniug the Press, all have beeu participants in its benefits, while the publishers and conductors, by a greatly incrunsed patronage, have been made amply remunerated ior their expenditure of capital and labor. Relieving that the growing prosperity of Savannah authorizes, and that her interests demand the estab lisbment of a cheap qommeicial and news medium, we have determined to publish the Daily Morning News as nearly as possible upon the plan of the penny Press of the Northern cities. The Morning News will be emphatically a Com mci'cial Newspaper, ^evoted to the diffusion of useful information on all subjects of popular interest, and to the. advancement of City and State interests, gener ally; preserving at all times a strictly neutral and independent position in regard to Politics ano Parties. Arrangements have been made for giving the*paper all the facilities enjoyed by the best Daily Papers, and no pains will be spared to make it satisfactory in all its departments, and to give it the character of a res pectable, useful, and reliable Journal. In view of the great advantages which must result to the citizens and business man from the establishment of such a paper in tinvannah, we feel that we may ask nnd safely count upon a liberal support.
