S. Arsenal in that city. Hollis. Per bark Susan W Lind, Tinkham, from Boston- By Last Night’s Western Mail. Montgomery, March 7. Terrible Steamboat Accident.—The stcam- ■' Orline St. John, Capt. T. Menher, was burnt to the water's edge, near Bridgeport, Dallas county, on Tuesday evening about 5 o'clock, while on her trip from Mobile to this city. It is supposed that about thirty persons were drowned. The fire was accidental, and was communicated by the heat of the boilers to the adjacent wood work. All the ladies on board the boat were lost. Lieut. Rice, of the United States Army lost $250,900. Several persons returning from California lost their all. There was insurance on the boat for $20,000. She was worth $40,- ooo. Since the above was in type, we have receiv ed the Montgomery Atlas, from which we take the following list of the passengers lost: Mrs. Hall and daughter, of Augusta, Ga., Mrs. and Miss Vaughan, and Mrs. McCain, S. C. Mrs. Haley, Mrs. Wright, two other Indies and two children, names unknown Messrs. T. B. Carson and Son, Dallas co. Thomas Stephens, printer,' Camden, Judge Lindsay, Mobile, Hugh Hughes, 2d mate. M bile, Peter Upson Steward and wife, Mobile, Second cook, two white deck hunrts and eight negroes—some ten or twelve other cabin pus sengers, names unknown. Purser Price. U. S. Navy, from California lost $250,000 in gold, Mr. Nolund lost $10,000 and several others from the same place lost every thing they had.—Boat, cargo and bng- gage, entirely lost. Boat insured for $20,000. Ey* The cholera, at the last accounts, was raging terribly at Trinity, in Louisiana, on the Texas river. The disease was sd destructive that hardly a patient could be saved. Flight was the only security, and the town therefore, was quite deserted. twelve miles, extending out In some places a league from the beach. Point Matcmillos is the starting point for veseels running down the channel. Those boats are enabled to reach Augusta nnd Ham burg, in tlie lowest stages of the river. Tho days of departure are: From Savannah, on TUESDAYS and SAT URDAYS, and . From Augusta nnd Hamburg, on SATUR DAYS and WEDNESDAYS. The guardian Angel is represented in the picture as linv. ing just descended to the earth—lie is spreading his wings over Daniel as a defensive shield, to cover the head of the kneeling saint enfolding him as in a man tle of so’ft and celestial plumage. At the sight of the vision, the lions shrink back with fear, or hushed hv the voice that stillrahe raging storm, sinks down into deep nnd subdued repose. The Prophet is depicted in a posture of devotion, with his countenance beam ing with love, awe and admiration. Doors open from 10 A. M. to 9 P. M. Admission 50 cents. * N. B.
