Mail Robhcry.—Tho mail from Peoria fto Springfield, (Illinois) was robbed nlTreniont on the 13th ultimo, while the driver wus changing horses. The Rag, after being cut open and ridecl of its contents, ', was thrown inio a hay stack, which Was also set on lire. The hay be ing damp did not burn rapidly, and tho fire was extinguished*. The intention ot the robber was to get the St. Lpuis mail, as it wAs known to contain $0000. Tim same pnper informs us that a’ eld at tempt was also made at Dillon to rob she mail. It says:— A sheet was suspended across the bridge for iho purpose of frightening the horses, but not effecting their object in this, just as the stage got off the bridge, two men were seen to issue from their hiding places, one of whom naught hold of the leader, with a view' of stopping tho team, but being a spirited animal, and his lo comotion being increased by the vigorous ap plication of the driver's whip, tho robber was knocked down, and theteam went offnt tf|o top of their speed, followed by tho other rubber who was pn horseback, but be , was soon dis tanced by the stage driver. The probability is that if the robber had approached near enough, the driver would have been shot.
