Cupt. Etchberger, of the El Dorado, saw two men in Laguayra, and has no doubt they are the inrac, os he was in St. Thomus when the brig arrived there, on board of which the murder was committed, and got a full description of them. The Charlestown Poisoning Case.—It ap pears that Mrs. Rose, lately poisoned at Charles town, Mass., was engaged to be married to John Pasqual, who is charged with the crime, within a month after the death of her husband —a proceeding which was strongly objected to by her relatives and friends. It will probably bo deemed expedient to disinter the body of Mr. Rose for examination, lie having died on ly two weeks before with similar symptoms. Horrible.—The coroner, at Philadelphia, on lust Wednesduy, held an inquest on the body 'of a child ,four years old, founu dead in the morn ing in bed, beside its drunken ond debased father. Prom wlmt could h° learned, it was evident that the child l ad been dosed with some vile intoxicating liquor, and fallen a victim to the poisonous draught. The verdict of the ju ry was in accordance with the facts. Tile wife and two children, it appears, had left the house, and with a drunken and helpless father, the poor and unoffending infant was left to breath j its last, in the midst of poverty, debauchery und degradation.—Ledger. Correspondence of tho Morning News. Havana, 7th March, 1850. SUGAR.—Since the 21st February, the unfavorable weather checked supplies of Sugar materially, and prices experienced an advance of 1 rial on our last quotations. But now tho receipts are becoming more abundant, which chords better selections to purchasers. There is a steady general demand, and we place our quotations as follows :—Whites, 9 a 10 rials ; Yellows, (if a 7} rials; Browns, 51 a 61 rials; Cucuruclios, 5 a 5} rials. Shipments of Muscovadoes continue for French markets, both from hence and the outports. We quote ordinary to middling, 5 a 5} rials ; good to prime, 5} a 6 rials. » The state of the atmosphere is now favorable for the operations of grinding, although it was materially retarded by. the interruption recently experienced. P. is nlso firmer, a cargo qf Wilmington sold at $17} for River, and $22 for Tim ber , there is one from Georgetown for disposal. The supplies of Box Shooks are falling off, but deal ers are averse to come forward and buy, owing to there being a good many in store, and on account of tlie uncertainty in regard to further imports. They are thebetter able to assume this attitude as their press ing wants were satisfied by the purchases made dur ing the last two months.—A trifling quantity was sold since our last report at 61 rials cash and on 60 days. There is some enquiry for good Molasses Hhd. Shooks, but Muscovado Shooks are in limited re quest. NEW YORK, Mnrch 7.—There continues an active demand for money, which, though the supply is am ple enough for ull the wants of the market, yet sus tains rates. TUostou and Providence continue to muke large daily applications for accommodation, and the holders of cotton required large assistance to enable them to sustain that market. The amount of com mercial paper offered, is freely taken, at the current rates ; at 6 per cent for short prime paper, and we hear of no transactions under that rate ; and 7 per cent for paper over 60 days and 8 per cent over 6 months. Names not well knpwn are taken at 9 per cent. Loans on call rule at 5 per cent, on the securities of government, und nt 6 per cent on other descrip tions.—Groceries’ paper is included in the above, as there is no distinction in the rates, other than of prime, second and third rate bills, ranking according to the "general credit of tha, parties.
