Hunter and Com. Perry.—We find in the Pennsylvanian the following letter addressed by Capt. Chas. G. Hunter, of the Navy, to Com.' M. C. Per ky. It explains itself, and confirms the state ment now going the rounds of the press, in re gard to the issae raised by the former: National Hotel, Washington, ) Feb. 12, 1850. .( Sir: Since my return to the United States, I have, for the first time, read your report in re lation to the capture of Alvarado and Tlscapnl- t&u. That report, sir, I pronounce to be false ! from beginning to end. , Alvarado, Tlacapaltun, and their dependencies were not, (as you have asserted,) captured by the combined forces of the army and navy, but were captured by me several day^ previous lo I your arrival. When the Amer.can forces en tered Alvarado, they found tile American flag Heating proudly upon all its forts, and the city in quiet possession of my officers and men How can yon, then, claim credit for an act which the present generation knows you are not entitled to; and horn dare you, (as you have done in your communication to the de partment,) leave an inference, that I was ar rested for an act of cowardice? Sir, as this has become a matter of history, I beg leave to inform you, that it is my intention to appeal to Congress for the purpose of 'having this I false, base, and ungenerous despatch expung ed from its records. Respectfully, yours, G. C. Hunter Commodore M. C. Perry, U. S. Navy, N. Y. It will be recollected that Captain H , with out orders for the purpose, made tho above captures with about 100 men, not losing a life, and was reprimanded on the decks of the fleet therefor. The Pennsylvanian says that the feel ing in favor of Hunter, at Washington, is strong I and decided, among members and citizens of all parties. nr a new omnibus has been started in I Philadelphia, called the “Jenny Lind.” Railroad Incident.—Left the Baby.—Con- ; ductors have their adventures as well as othors I and now and then are worth relating “in print." Pearson's Object in murdering his Wife.— Since the close of the trial of Pearson, for the murder of his family, facts havo come to the ears of the Attorney General which .will tend to in terfere with that executive clemency to which he was recomonded by the jury who tried (t* m - These facts are that he had, previous to commit ting the murder, engaged to marry a female wilh whom he had been for some time inti mate i that this female wrote tho note found uppn the table when the bodies were discover ed, und further, that Pearson, either before or immediately after the murder, wrote to a friend in Providence, giving him a minute description of the dross he wore, that through this means, if his friend would assist him, an alibi might be proved. Tho female whom he had enguged to mhrry was present in the court room on Friday, during Chief Justice Shaws’s charge to the ju ry.—Boston Bee.
