The Scriptures 'were read by the Rev. Dr. Hutton. The recepts of the last month were $128,591 97, and the number of books distributfed, 30,- 668. Five new societies ~.vere recognized as aux iliaries, three in lndianu, one in North Carolina and one in Texas. Letters were read from the society’s now agent in Texas. Mr. Strong, who hits been cordially received at Houston; from the secretary of the French and Foreign liible Society, giving ail interesting account of distributions made, through this society’s as sistance, during the past year, und urging im portunately farther grants for this year; also let ters from Constantinople and from China. Dr. Bridgman writes, Nov. 16ih, from Shanghai, that they hove proceeded with the new trans- ; lution asfar 1 as Colossians. Grants of Bibles and Testaments were made on application from North Carohna, Georgia, Yiabama and Mississippi, und ,<t? up ffllbhey were made (to be'paid us early as ’fluids will allow,) for printing the’Scvipturos in Turkey, Syria, Persia, at Madrusland Lodiana in India, and at the Sandwich Islands. Mr. YVimmer, the Hungarian pastor, has been invited by the board to visit , for the society some of our cities and villages, [ where the German population abounds. Mr. W. has long been in the service of the British and Foreign Bible Society, in' Hungary, Bohe mia, and other countries near the Danuhc.caus- ing some 200,000 copieu of the Scriptures to be prepared and circulated in that region. Xs he is very, familiar with the Bible cause, and is distinguished as an-able and ovangelical preacher, it is hoped that he may do much to- ; ward calling the attention of the German pop ulation of our country to the word of God. As the financial year of this society will close with March, and as many thousand dol lars are wanted, not only for home operations, but to redeem pledges made abroad, it is hop- I ed that the local societies will lose no time in making remittances. Every dollar raised this i month will be put to immediate use, and for the best of all objccts, the distribution of Inspired Truth.
