MEMORANDA.
Philadelphia, March 19.—Arr, schr Sea Bird,
Godfrey, from Savannah.
Saviinnnli Cotton Market, Mni'cli 211.
COTTON.—Yesterday only lti!) bides were sold, ns
follows : 105 bales at I 1} , 5 at 11};'14 nt Hi 1 9 at
11); 30nt 111; C at 11J, and 18 Musterdcn at cts.
•j'lie market wus firm, and but little offering,. us ope
rators hourly expected the telegraphic accounts by
mo Niagara, now due.
CHARLESTON, March 22.—The sides of tlieweek
amount to 7,239 bales, against the receipt in tho same
time of 5,170 bales.
We quote ordinary to good ordinary 10} a 10};
middling to good middling 10J a 111; middling fair
11} a 11}; fair to fully fair llj a 12; und good fair
and clioico 12f cents.
Rice.—There lms been a fair demand for the dif
ferent qualities of this article during tho week. Tho
transactions have been at extremes ranging from 2J
to SO] per 100 lbs.; tho bulk of the sales, however,
have been made within the rango of 3} u $0]. Tho
receipts comprise 2,701 tcs.
Rough Rice.—Tho primer qualities continuo in
demand, and at full prices; some 10,000 bushels linvo
in fact been sold at an advance on the prices paid the
previous week. Northern cargoes . generally rule
from 90 to 96c.; and Southern do. from 70 to 88c., as
in qmdity. The receipts of tho week reach 5.'1,000
bushels. ,
Ittoney Matters, Trade, (tr.
NEW Y ORK, March 18.—The inquiry lor money
continues active, and the supply is fully adequate to
tiie demand. R.ites nro unchanged. There is begin
uing to be some movement in Foreign Exchanges for
the steamer of Wednesday, and tho market is a
shade firmer. The quotations are 108 a 108} for fair
to first class Sterling; Francs are 5,32} a 5 30, with
a fair amounts of suit's.
Tiie total amount of California cold received nt tho
j U. 8. Mint, at Philadelphia up to tfie present time is
| 8:l, 175,000, and nt New Orleans, $1,904,129, making a
total of *11,379,120.
To which may be added, say $750,000 worth of
I geld still remaining ill private hands, it would thus
appear that tile total amount of California gold rc-
ceived into this country from the first consignment,
ia 1818, up to the present time, exceeds twelve mil
lions of dollars.
The coinage nt tho mint during the prosent quarter
lias been very heavy, ex may have been inferred from
I hr- number of certificates paid. About $100,000 of
double eagles have been coined nud issued, and a still
larger amount will he coined in the course of a few
NEW Y'ORK, March 19.—In tho Foreign Exchang

rates being 107 to 1,08}. Hamburg, 34} a 35. Am
sterdam, 29} a 40. Bremen, 77} a 77}. At which
rates, of course, there is very little demand for specie.
Tiie Bsnk of England had nt last advices about
£17,(HH),000‘of its specie in its vaults, and the amount
was daily increasing the precious metals having ac
tually become a drag in the market.
