Diabolical Murder.—The young girl who was outraged by a party of rowdies, at New York, who broke into her uncle’s bouse (a poor Irishman) at night, tied him in bed, and also outraged his wife, died on Friday of the in juries she received. ,4 Maternal Compliment—The Hon. Rob ert Lindsey, when living in Bengal, received a letter from his mother, in whi^fi she said : “I understand, dear Robert, that you aro a great slup-builder. Your talents in this line I do not dispute ; but I have one favor to ask of you which is this, tltat you will not come in one of vour own building.” “And,” said he, “lint plicitly followed her advice.” A Man Roasted!—Wo searccly .ever have had to chronicle a more revolting outrage than was perpetrated a few days ago in the parish of Compton Dundon, near Bumerton. A small firmer named Edward Allen, was drinking in the house of his tenant, a man named 1 nul Hill. Hill had purchased a quantity of cider of Allen who had given them a bucket lull or two over, and a parly of seven or eight persons were merry-making over the upplo-juice. Some of the party proposed to send for tobac co, and asked Allen for money, which he refus ed. In order to compel him to pay his por tion, they then blocked Yip the chimney corner in which he was sitting, and heaped fresh fuel on the fire, keeping him there it is said, for a period of two hours, and literally roasting him ! When the prior fellow essayed to get off his small cloths, the flesh of his legs come oft with hisgarmouts, and he now lies in a very dangerous state. 1 Ralph Neville, Esq., attend ed by Mr. Welsh, the magistrate’s clerk, went down to the house on Wednesday, to take his deposition, but found him light-headed and un able to give a connected account of the affair. Sherborne (Eng.) Jour. Woolen Printing.—A great Improvement.— Messrs. Holt & Briefly, of Lowell, have now in successful bqcrution a] new improvement ol their own discovery, which promises to yield a rich reward. It is the printing of woolen goods, in any style of stripe and figure that may he desired, and in perfectly fast colors, such ns will stand tile tgst of thorough washing. Mr. Thomas Brierly is the original inventor and discoverer of the process of this printing, and has it secured by patent. This* colors are of superior brilliancy, and the style of goods is universally admired. For linings of ladies and gentlemen’s clonks and coats, we predict that these goods will soon become all the rage. For children’s clothing, too, they are so much prettier than any thing in the market, that they can hardly fail of a great run.— Worcester Spy. Strangs,. Affair.—Tedesco, it is said by the New York Atlas, was not married to a New Grenadian, and was therefore not abandoned by her husband. The porson said to' be her husband is in New York, and is about to com mence proceedings against those who started the story. Tedesco to appear as a witness and prove tlint she never was married to the indi vidual in question. This js a queer affair. Hunter.—It is stated in a letter from Washington in the Norfolk Beacon, that there will bo a court of enquiry, to examine into und report all the circumstances connected with the capture of Alvarado. It is stated that Commo dore Perry was to appear before Alvarado with a part of the Gulf Squadron, and Gen. Quit- man was to proceed by land with 2,500 troops, thus making a sea and land expedition. One of the objects was to get horses and mules which were wanted for the army—that the Mexicans drove them all off upon Lieut. Hun- - ter’s appearing off Alvarado without orders and capturing the town. The lady, having been engaged in reading a very “interesting” hook—probably a flash novel—was loth to retire to bod until she had consumed its contents. The gentle man, being fatigued, went to rest, und while he was snoring, his worse half quietly hoisted the window below stairs nnd egressed, taking with Iter a bed and clothing; and ns the ancient lover and herself have not been seen since scundal has reported that, they have gone to Philadelphia. The deserted husband, on the next day, sold his furniture out, nnd placed the children under the care of a female relative So much for snoring whett the Union is in danger. I Mississippi Legislature.—The Legisla ture of Mississippi adjourned on the 9th ilist. Tho Mississippiun, in noticing some of the labors of the Legislature during tho session, says: Tho people will rejoice to learn that the taxes have bean reduced fifty per cent.; that two hundred thousand dollars have been appro priated to the cause of common schools; that a great reform has been made in the pleadings of our courts, so as to make them intelligible to every man’s understanding. Provision has been made for electing the extra member of Congress, to be allowed under the new appor tionment—thus saving the State the expen.-e of holding an extra session. An important act has’just been passed, the object of which is to ■discontinue sales of land for tuxes due thereon, and to create a forfeiture thereof, directly to *ho State for taxes due. The act dispenses ■with tho heavy accumulation of costs and 'charges upon delinquent lands, and leaves them redeemable fur two years after the forfeiture, at the auditor’s office, on payment of the taxes due, ai d fifty p er cent, damages thereon. A beneficial feauno of this act, which must in- sure cheap homes to emigrants, is that which requires the auditor after two years, to exocute a deed in fee simple to any person who will pay the redemption money due on lands so for feited. It is the same provision, in effect, with ■hat which in a few years has filled the State of Arkansas with a vast accession of population ■from other Slates.
