The Forrbst Divorck Cask.—The bill to livnrcc Bilwin Forresl and his wife passed the committee of tl.o wh.de in the Pennsylvania Senate, on Friday, by a vote ot twenty to thir teen. f We fmd this paragraph in several of our Northern exchanges, while the telegraphic dou ches of the “associated presses,’* in this iiv concur in staling that Mr. Forrest’s ••divorce bill was rejected by the Pennsylvania Senate.” * 9 u remar * <a 'd <J t * iat , ' 1R des- ■ trhes of ()UI ' liberal und enterprising cotem- poraries should, in all instances, tally so well, •lion those of the Republican emanate from tho office of the Charleston Courier, while ilin‘0 of the Georgian arc published as coming from Ncw-York, Washington City, and Balti more. . Steam Boat Disaster.—The Columbus Enquirer of Tuesday says—Just as we are go ing to press we learn that the steamer H. F. Smiih, left here on Sunduy evening for Apala chicola, took fire about thirty miles below this city, and was entirely consumed. She had on board ubout one thousand bales of cotton, all or the most of which was burnt. Our informant, who escaped from the Bout, was notable to state whether any lives were lost owing to the fuct that some of the passen- c- rs escaped to the rasl and some to the west hank of the River, and there hud been no com inunication between them, up to the time of his leaving. The Burke Road.—Wo were pleased, says the Macon Messenger of Wednesday, to no tire the other day, that the contractors of thp above road, were already vigorously engaged in grading the track and preparing it for the superstructure. From their well known ener gy aud ability, it may he safely calculated, that they will have tho road as far as Waynesboro, completed by the time specified in - their con tract, viz: the first of November next. The iron which has been procured by Messrs. Padelfurd Fay &. Co., of Savannah, has been trail-furred to the company, at a merely nominal advance upon its actual cost. It is of very superior quality aud extru weight ; and will enable the engineer to make this the very best road in th State. This enterprise is destined to have an incredible influence upon tho trade of Sir. nah, as it must necessarily absorb nearly all of the heavy freights which now find their way o- ver the Charleston Road for Augusta, und points West of that city. Charleston will feel its influence from the first day of its comple; tion- It is emphatically u Georgia enlerpris and we wish it success. Wendell Phillips, the rampant abolitionist! is also out against Mr. Webster’s speech in eight columns of the Bos ton Liberator.
