Hillings of crepe lisse or white tulle, or of we

Bail Dresses.—We may here remark that
ball dresses have undergone some little chungn-
frfop tlmso of last season, few of them now
opening ap the entire sides, and seldom u tahlier
a la verge re; on tho contrary, they are roun
ded, und only caught up ou one side a. la. Mar
quise.
Flowers, instead of being arranged upon
these dresses in tbufies or clusters, may now
be seen wuving indexible branches, and droop
ing in leaves of verdure. Chenille is now in
great request, and has an extremely pretty ef
fect when formed into rosebuds- npun gouze dr
tulle. Another very elegant style of ba|)
dresses is composed of white crepe a double
jupc, over a satin skirt, cut a la Ceres; the body
pluin and low, a polote basque; draperies pf
crepe descending in fan-like form upon the cor- |
sagis sleeverhuvo draperies superpeaees f the
the pururo of flowers tue extremely beautiful,,
consisting of a gerbo, Ceres posee upon the
second skirl and the body, and a wreath felling
over iu long toughs of flowers. These gprbo,
Ceres are composed of three full-blown rosdfr
white and scarlet, to Which are attached
bers of foliage and half open buds, wee
wards the lips.
Caps.—We have not much to speak of aoi
corning this style of head dresses,, the latest
production being the Vestale, composed of a
pointe of blonde, with its uhgjes rounded; twqfc
toufles or liunchcs of ivy and the \yhita eglan
tine confining the pointe to tbe head on either
side, a cordon of tbe ivy passingraund the back *•
of the bend under the pointe of blonde, at once
simple and elegant.
Fashionable, Colors.:—The approach of spring
may he visible in tbe lighter colors peeping out
when the sun shines; most of them being shot
and giaco render them most beautiful, such as
gris cendre, shot with pink, and green shot
with lilac or white, lavender shot with white,

Astounding Disclosures.-The tnor
state that some astounding disclosures!
ly be made, which will fearfully agitate .the
uptown circles,, and place gentlemen nf high
respectabilty in an unenviable position before the
community. Itsecmsthut e deep laid scheme to*
entrap certain wealthy persons whs concocted
by two men and a female, and stifccasfully pul
in operation; and having got them in there
power, large sums of money- were extorted,
thousands of dollars, it is said, to avoid dis
closures which would have laid themselves and
families open to the foulest disgrace. Tho
subject, however, is now before a criminal;
Court, uud a full exposure cannot be prevented-
We ure in possession of the fucts of the case, but
cannot publish them at present; we may state,
however, that certain men have connived at tho
criminal intercourse of their wive* with rich
me:chants, themselves husbands and fathers,
and so planning 1t as to delect the parties in,
flagrant deliclu, and then extorting hush money
to a very large amount. The demands of tho
scoundrels, however, have lately become so un
reasonable, that the guilty “parties’*t*ofu«£d to
“ shell out,” and an exposure is threatened.-—
New York Mirror, Thursday.
Tho morals of New York are not improviltjf
much if such statements be true. It is only o>
day or two ago that wo read in oneof it journals '
that there wore female club-rooms existing in
that city, devoted to gambling and licentious-,
ness, which were visited by ladies who.figuered
in tho reulms of fashion, and were tbe leaders
in upper-crustdom.
