Important Experiment.—Tlie Legislature
of Va., ut its recpnt session, made nn appro
priation of $10,000 for the purpose of testing

An Odious Monopoly.—’Xhc Chilian Govern
ment has renewed the privilege, for five yoars,
to the British Steamship,Company, to navigate
exclusively the 1’nCific const from Valparaiso to
Panama, but the Geirornmenls of Peru, Bolivia
und Eucndor refuse to concur in this arrange
ment, ami resolutely oppose, the monopoly.
