MORNING NEWS.
Mias Jenny Lind
Wliilo on the chapter of musicians, why not
devote u few lines to the queen of song? Some
few weeks since she wits the cynosure of all
eyes in the Prussian capital. The Earl ot
Westmoreland, the Prime Minister Brund-
etiburgh, untl several other h-uders in the
fashionable word, thought themselves Inippyto
secure the presence of the simple to ailed Swi h
isligirl ut llieis soiries. She mingled in the
gay und titled throng—among them hut not
of them. Her air was huttgiity and cold, und
those who surrounded her to heap upon her
encomiums und compliments, as upon nmirtist
whose only object is to give them pleasure and
whoso sight is dazzled by the glare of princely
magnificence, found themselves mistaken. Jen
ny Lind’s gentle manner rebukes presumption
and tilled arrogance finds her cold und appar
ently haughty. S.ie is one of those instinc
tively pore and natural persons who are always
at home among those whose characters are us
pure and nohleas herown. No native boro gen
tleman or lady ever went neat'Jenny Lind with
out becoming interesting in her, but the pre
sumptuous, the arrogant, the violent und the
affected, make her shrink ns quickly as tjie
mimosa nl the approach of a tough baud
The delicacy and sensitiveness which have
made her renounce singing on the stage, render
her shy in it saloon, where she feels she is
sought chiefly as an artist to contribute to the
entertainment of the guests of a great mao.
Various, therefore, were the opinions ai Berlin
respecting her. Some thought iter charming a d
intellectual; others reserved ; other., disposed
(ogive herself uirsj others that she was griev
ing lor the loss of her lover. One gentleman
tissued me that he had seen her treat it countess
in the most contemptuous manner compatible
with frigid politeness ; and several have asser
ted thut she liad the appearance of a woman of
thjpty five. Though insensibly influenced
against tier, I deferred n y departure from Ber
lin two days to hear her sing. She was to give
three or four concerts, of which she insisted on
devoting two to the relief of the poor. This
is in keeping with her practice every where,
she having given to the poor and to artists us
much or more than she has taken for herself.
The tickets were, all sold two days before the
day of jhe concert, and it few hours afierit was
aimuur.cd thut‘she would sing. The immense
hill was crowded to overflowing wiih tin* beau
ty and fashion of Berlin. The ticket which I
had obtained was for theend gallery, separated
from tlte singer by the whole length of the hall.
1'his place was tilled with diplomatists, mem
bers uf tho HnuS’ , 8 l foreigners and Indies. It
"as perfectly level, and only the front tanks
could see the lower part of the house or the
platform, so that you may guess the disappoint
ment of the unfortunute occupants. A church
choir commenced the performance.
Then came Jenny Lind. A’moment after
the rich sweet tones of her powerful voice fill-
e <l cvesy part of the house. Wo of tliegullery
mounted on our chairs to get a full view of the
performer. A single look was enough to dis-
ailn prejudice. There she stood, graceful and
imidost, looking as pure us a mountain tlowe
ef her own land peeping from the white snow,
ohe sing eight times during the evening, and
the admiration of the crowded house increas
ed m enthusiasm. There was so much lespect
mingled with this admiration tlmt the common
tyranny of encoring was not resorted to except
a . the close. After hearing her one can uppre-
emte the praise of the Englishman who said
, 10 makes no efibrt at all. sir, but you can

links young, too,not over twenty, und fiqsh.

TEA CULTIVATION IN THE V. STATES.
H AVING received a small supply of TEA NUTS,
collected at great expense ol money and labor,
in the middle districts of Chinn, from the most cele
brated Tea Plantations of the Empire, 1 ani prepared
to fulfil my engagements by accommodating the pub
lic with a share of the Nuts received. My'inoin ob
ject is to plant nnd cultivate; but us I am quite cer
tain that 1 have obtained, after the labor of three
years, the best quality of Ten Nuts, I am disposed to
meet the wishes of the public, and to share them
with others.—Tea Nuts gathered in the neighborhood
of Canton are senreely worth cultivating, on account
of the inferior quality of the Tea. It is obviously the
interest of the planter to submit to an increased ex-
pease, to secure r superior quality of Tea Nut, in es
tablishing a Ten Plantation, whether large’ or small.
In prosecuting this arduous undertaking, I am in
fact acting na an agent for the benefit of the public.
Neither the State, the public, or any individual, has
ever extended to me trie aid of a single cent.
For convenience and security, the Nuts will be
packed in tin boxes, nnd forwarded frotn Greenville,
S. C., by such conveyance and to auth address as the
purchaser may direct, to nny part of the V. .States.
TEA PLANTS—now on thpir passage from China,
selected with a single eye to qunlity, by a gentleman
of large experience in horticultural pursuits, and p r-
haps better acquainted with the character of the Ten
Plant, than nny person in Europe or Americn—will
also be shared with those desirous of obtaining a
small supply.
A specification of the soilbestndnpted to the growth
of the plant, the mode of planting, cultivating, &c.
&e., wfl] accompany each parcel.
Application should be made (post-paid) to the sub
scriber.
