PROSPECTUS or “ THE SOUTHERN PRESS.” A N Association of sixty-threo Members of Con gress, Senators and Representatives, have con stituted the undersigned a Committee to superin tend the establishment of a Southern Press at Wash ington City, to be devoted to the exposition and de fence of Southern Rights and Institutions—the dis semination of correct information as a Northern Pol icy, and the course of Political Attain generally, with out reference to the old party lines of Whig and Democrat- Arrangements are now in progress, promptly to ensure the issue of such a paper under the title of “THE SOUTHERN PRESS," for the conduct of which, suitable Editors have been engaged, who will also receive the aid of a number of eminent and able contributors. There will be both a tri weekly and a weekly Issue the latter to contain substantially the same matter ns the former,, and intended to reach those points of the country whose mail facilities are limited. A Paily issue will be added hereafter, should it bo deemed udvisnble or necessary by the press and peo ple of the Southern States. The paper will not be exclusively political—butem- brace on its broad sheet the General News of the day, Domestic aud Foreign, by mail and telegraph; Commercial and Agricultural Intelligence, Literary Criticisms, Original Essays, Literary and Miscellane ous ; and, in short, all those items of general inter est, the collected aggregate of which constitutes the interesting and valuable Newspaper. Great care will be Liken to give full mid correct Reports of the Proceedings and Debates in both Houses of Con gress. as well us the action of the local Legislatures on the Southern question. A limited number of Advertisements only will be received—the main object being to furnish a large amount of reading matter. The paper will be printed rn a sheet equnl in size to those of the other Washington papers, and the ma terial will be procured especially for the purpose. It is confidently hoped thatevery true friend to the South will aid in procuring subscribers, aud forward the names, with the amount subscribed, to some Southern Representative at Washington, forthwith. Postmasters are authorized hy law to remit sub scriptions free of postage. TERMS: For Tri-weekly during the Session of Con gress, and Semi-weekly during,the recess, the price will he. per annum $5 00 Weekly paper 2 00 The price of subscriptions must be paid in variably in advance, and the cash accompany the name sent.
