B LACKWOOO’8 MAGAZINE ANDTIIK BRITISH QUARTERLY REVIEWS.—Owing to the late revolutions and counter-revolutions among the nations of Europe, which have followed each other in such quick succession, and of which “ll* end is not yet," the leading periodicals of Great Brit a n have become invested with n degree of interest hitherto unknown. They occupy a middle ground between the hasty, disjointed, and necessarily imper fect records of the newspapers, and the elaborate and ponderous treatises to lie furnished by the histo rian at a future day. The American Publishers, there* fore, deem it proper to cull renewed attention to these Periodicals, and the very low prices at which they are offered to subscribers. The fojlowing >• their list, viz : THE LONDON QUARTERLY REVIEW, THE EDINBURGH REVIEW, THE NORTH BRITISH REVIEW, THE WESTMINSTER REVIEW, ~ AND BLACKWOOD'S EDINBURGH MAGAZINE. in these periodicals are contained the views mod erately, though clearly and firmly expressed ?■ the three great parties in England—Tory, Whig and Radical— “»Blackwood” and the “ London Quarterly," are Tory; the “ Edinburgh Review,’ Whig : and the “ Westminster Review,” Liberal- The “ North British Review" owes its establishment to the last great ecclesiastical movement in Scotlsuff and is not ultra iu its views on any one of the grand 1 department of human knowledge j it was originally edited by Dr. Chalmers, and now, sinee his dentk is conducted by his son-in-law, Dr. Hanna, associatfff with Sir David Bi ewster. Its literary character is or the very highest order. The “ Westminster," though reprinted under tliat title only, is published in Eu?' land under the title of ;,he “Foreign Quarterly son' Westminster," it being in fact a union of the two Reviews formerly puhlb'red and reprinted under se parate tiDe. It was, therefore, the advantage by tulr combination, of unitfng in one work Die besljfiurturei of both as heretofore issued. The above Periodicals are reprinted in New York immediately on their arrival by the British st«!am t!^,l in a beautiful clear type, on fine white paper, and am faithful copies of the originals.
