We hope this occurrence will bo a warning to our citizens, as every winter it fulls to the lot of editors to record incidents of this kind. SECOND DISPATCH. Liverpool Cotton Market. New Yoiyc Oct. 27, 9. P. M. Tbs American steamship Pacific lias arrived bringing Liverpool dates to the 16th inst. The Liverpool CottonjMrket was dull at previ ous quotations. M.—Cotton—Our market remains much the same ns noticed yesterday. Neith er buyers or sellers show much disposition to oper ate, and trnsaetions are confined to small lots, ut | cent decline from tho prices paid previous to the ar rival of tlie steamer. The River is still low, but the recent rains we linvo had, with present prospects for more, leads us to hope we will soon have a good steamboat river. ATLANTA, Oct. 24—Cotton.—Wehave to note a small decline, since last week, in our market from an i to a ic. The damand is not so good, and buy ers do not take hold so freely. We quote fair 12$ a 13c., mostly at 12$e, The Campbell!* Are Come! The CAMroiLt. Minstels have arrived, and, M Will ha teen by their advertisement; in another column, will give th"ir first Concert in this city This Evening, at the Armory Hall. Their programme rf performance is a good one. The Augusta Constitutionalist, in noticing the de parture of tho Minstrels for tbjs city, says : “We take this opportunity of informing our friends below, that they will find the Campbells ono ot tho best Ethiopi an Companies that has ever visited that city.” Serious Affray. On Sunday morning, be tween three and four o'clock, as Michael Bourne and Michael Donnelly were passing along Market Square,(they having set up with the deceased wife ot a friend,) they were met by James Oliver, the keeper of the Phoenix Bowling Saloon, when a difficulty ensued between the parties, and James Oliver stubb ed Michael Bousk with a large knife, which, it is said, penetrated his lungs. Tho wound is a very dangerous one, and it is feared Mr. Burke cannot survive. As the affair will undergo a judicial inves tigation, we rofrain from further comment Death of a Georgian.—A correspondent of tho New-Orleans Picayune, writing from Vera Cruz on tho 26th ult., states that on the 23d two Americans, from California, went into nu eating house and called for dinner, which, they were informed, would be furnished speedily. They soon became impatient and commenced breaking tho furniture In tho room. A piece of an earthen Jar struck a littlo girl on tho head and cut a severe gash. Tho guards were then called in. Two only came, with their muskets, which were soon taken out of their hands and broken to pieces, and the soldiers badly beaten. A reinforce- Wont was called in, and the two Americans would not yield until they were overpowered and received very dangerous wounds, in consequence of which ono has since died—Franklin West. The other is in a very precarious condition. The said West con fessed to his friend. Dr. U. F. Stigeb, of Lafayette county, Miss., while on his death-bed, that ho was drunk and he was sorry for it, and had done wrong. The deceased has left a wife and six children in Georgia. THIRD DISPATCH. New York Cotton Market. New Yobk, Oct. 27,10. P. U. Out Cotton market was dull yesterday, (Saturday) with sales of 1800 bales. We quote Fuir Uplands at fourteen and a half (14J), and Orleans at fifteen (15) cents. Tlie sales of the week amounted to 8000 bales. Rick.—The total sales for^the week is 600 tierces at threo and a half (3J) to three and fire-oighths, (Of) Tliero was a tremendous thunder storm In Balti more lust night. Wo hear nothing further from tho abolition riot in Boston. CHARLESTON, Oct, 26th.—Cotton—The SRles of the week uro 11,005 bales. The demand has contin ued throughout tho week to a fuir extent, without much change in prices. The following quotations, Liverpool classification, we give with confidence ns the true criterion of the market previous and at its close yesterday : Inferior a Ordinary 125, Good Ordinary, 13 a 13$, Middling a Good Middling 13$ a 13?, Middling Fa r 13}, Fair a fully Fair 13$ a 13$. We would remark that the later accounts by tho Asia, received on Wednesday, and which left the Liv erpool market the same as reported by tho Europa, hud no visible effect on ours. Rice.—Extremes of prices during the week ranged from $3 a S3}, the bulk of tile sales from $3$ a $3 fi le. The market closed at $3 a $3$ for common to fair, nnd $3 3-16 a $3} for good and common prime quality; there was no strictly prime or choice on the market For such we would continue our former, quotatians of $3$ a $3}. ductors thereof declaring it absolutely necessary to curtail their production. This discouraging stuto of things, however, dons not apply to one of tho largest class of consumers, namely the spinners of yarn for export, who are in a better position than at a former period when raw material was 2d tn 3d per lb lower in pi'icv, Tho rcsillt of this week’s proceedings has been to show that prices of all kinds aie steady, and withoutchange from last Friday's quotations; fair Uplands standing at 8d. Mobile 8d, and Orleans 8}d, 6180 American, 4630 Surat, 240 Egyptnin, nnd 100 Pornam have been tnken on speculation, and 1400 American, 1070 Surat, nnd 80 West India for export. The sales for the week amount to 43 480 hales. NEW-ORLEANS, Oct. 23.—The Asia’s news was received here to-day. Tlie cotton market is brisk and the demand quite steady—5,500 bales sold to-day, at one eighth advance. Middling 13$ to 13}. The purchases were mostly for England. Fair Sugar 6$. New Molasses has de clined—300 bbls, sold at 27 to 28 cents. Wright’s Cotton Circulnr. New York, Oct. 22d, 1850. Floridaund New Orleans. From Havana. Tho schooner Zephyr, arrived at Charleston, brings dates to 15th inst. About thirty of the most distinguished and wenlthy ritizena of Ma- tanzaa wero arrested during tho early part of the present month, on suspicion of being concerned with tho LorEz expedition. Two cargoes of Rice from Charleston sold at 11 rials, and ono cargo from Savannah subsequently at 10}. The cargo of the schooner Bruthers, from Charleston, just arrived, hod not been disposed of. The Produce market remained unchanged. ETA Havana letter dated 18th inst., says tho British government havo demanded and obtainod the release of the Seotohmun who wns taken with others of Lopez's expedition at Cardenas. It is something to ba a British subject after all. It will be remembered that tho Spanish steamer PI- carro wns reported cruizing on our const a few days since. The letter alluded to says: the Pizurro has ro turned from Watching your coasts, and is now coal ing. The war steamer Colon is also in, but is pre paring for sea. The story runs boldly thnt the expe dition has already sailed, one steamer nnd two sail ing vessls, with 1,800 men, from some point on the lake, and will soon be on our shore. Several men-of- war go to sea to-morrow. HP* Mr. Thomas Affleck U out in a letter in the Nuw*Orleaus Picayune, on tho cotton crop, in which he expreoacs the belief that the crop will not go over that of last year, nnd advises planters to hold up for 15 cents. He says: *‘The present are, unquestion ably, fuir rates, when compared with past years. But with the short crops now coming in, the price I have named can bo had just as readily as a lower one.’* t3T Land warrants are held in New-York at $1 30 a $1 33; in St. Louis at St 33 a $1 40. War- rants under the new law not being assignable, the old ones are sought for by settlers; and as about 4,000 per month are located, the number issued will soon be absorbed, there not being over 10,000 or 12,. 009 unlocated. Tho steamship Commodore Stockton, which wns to sail on Saturday last from Philadelphia for Cali fornia, has on board some twenty slaves, the proper ty of Mr. Ulm, of Florida, and Capt. Marshal), of Charleston, the owners of,the vessel. They arc in. tended to man the stenmship on her voyage round to the Pacific, and afterwards to act as servants du ring the trips from Panama to San Francisco. A letter writer says—Tho negroes are well fed and clothed, and appear much morecontented with their condition than our own free blacks, who, possessing tho advantages of liberty, are frequently complete Objects of destitution. It will be remembered thnt the sailing of this steamer was advertised In tho , /feu s tome time since. Correspondence of the Daily Morning News. New York, Get. 23,1850. The Ohio arrived here late lust night, with tho California muils, which should have been received here several days since. This sending the mail by particular steamers only, is a very injudicious ar rangement. We learn that the Spanish steamer Pi- zarro is hovering on tho American coast. The where fore however, does not appear to he understood here. The Asia is in to day with a weeks later news from Europe. It is not important, except thnt we learn of Haynuu's arrest at Cussel, and all the officers threat en to lay down their arms unless tho elector puts an end to the present stnte of affairs. The General stormed, but it v#us of no use, and he was compelled to succumb, and promised to suspend all further proceedings until he received further instructions The fact ot the Hyena being under arrest, gives great satisfaction. You w ill leuru tho Btate of the markets by telegraph, I presume. Tho steamer City of Glasgow nrrlved this morning, but her news is not important. This is said to be her last trip to this port, as tho proprietors have fqymcd a line of steamers between Glasgow nnd Philadelphia. Tho beet of the joke is, thHt the Fhila delphia papers give ns a reason for tho change, that running her to New York was not profitable. I should think, it was like jumping from the frying-pan into the tiro. Tho city of brotherly lore and rowdyism is quite exultant at tlie fact, nnd may she merry be. The merchants of tlie city have adopted the advice of the Evening Mirror, and intend to call a mass meeting of all parties, to endorse the act of Congress in passing tho compromise measures. It is expected 1 suppose, that this will be a serious blow to Seward, Grcely Sc Co., and upset their “ agitation hobby.” It is a grand move, unquestionably, and may effect thnt object. A new steamer called the Winfield Scott wna launch ed yesterday; und it is predicted already that lie will bo Fillmore's successor. But i have my doubts; it will be as well, however, to note tho fuct for future reference, if necessary. We are manufacturing citizens very rnpidly just now. Ilow it iB donp, I don't pretend to know, but it is remarkable how quickly foreigners of all nations are couvcrtcdinto free and independent voters. From tho Ut of January last, to the 1st October, 4194 per sons havo declared their intentions, in the county clerks’ office; but only 746 have becomo naturalized in the same period. In the Superior Court, 99» de clared intentions, nnd 382 wore naturalized. Thus in nine months 5190 declared; nnd 1128 were natu ralized. But us the election approaches, mnrk the difference ; since the lBt Oct., 405 havo declared, and 135 have taken out their final papers. The fees for this business since January 1st, amount to 81860. The Forrest case is now before the Supreme Court in argument.. it will continue for several days, 1 suppose. The result is looked for with some inter est. Drury has got a further respite, his counsel having succeeded in convincing the Court that tho indict ment was not good—curiously enough, however, it was not quashed, but a new one is to bo prepared, and so the trial went off. Indictments have been found against the lawyers Niles and Roberts, for conspiracy in riddling the Havens out of $2,000. Who is to be the Whig Candidates for Mayor is yet doubtful, though cx. Alderman, Jos. Kelly seems to be very prominent just now. I think Mr. Burk of the Express will be re nominated to Congress. The steamship Europa left here to day for Liver pool, with about 60 passengers, and $486,500 in specie. Jenny I.ind's concert has been post poned until to morrow night, ut Tripler Hall, as the stage is to bo altered to suit the lady's wishes. This magnificent Hail is, strange to say, badly ven- tilated. It is almost impossible to sit in the upper circle even, when it is moderately filled—whst it will be when crowded I can imagine, and I should’nt like the reality. Removal of tub Agent to Cochin-China.—A dispatch from Washington says that Joseph Bubs- liar, the special agent under the late Administration to Cochin Chine, Siam, Sic., is to be removed Tlie Dry Goods Trnde. NEW-V OltK, Oct 3.—Tile Dry Goods market con tinues dull fur all description* except Mouslin de 1,nines and Merinos, which are selling steadily both at auction and private sales at full prices. The supply is not large. There is a better demand for Cotton fabrics, such as Brown .Sheeting and Shirtings, market firm. ^Bleached goods are inactive. This news was not us favorable as expected, and as a consequence there was little disposition on the pnrt of buyers to operate. The Europa came to hand on the 14th inst, advising the loss of the improvement noted, but the latest intelligence per Atlantic having somewhat pre pared operators here lor the decline, it was without ellect upon our market, which remained steady, with a fair business doing. On Wednesday, the 16th inst, the America was announced by telegraph, with the intelligence of a steady market, and advices of sules st Liverpool for tlie week ending 4th inst, of 44,600 brdes. Since the receipt of this mugs our market has undergone but little chnnge. YdB-rdny the sales were small, and the market closed dull at quotations, which, on the Middling qualities of Gulf, nre $e high er than those given a fortnight ago. The greater portion of our stock is composed of Uplands, which nre ottered freely at quoted rates. The snies since the 8th inst. to last evening amount to 12,0U0 bales, ta ken for Great Britain, Franc , the Continent, and a small amount for spinning. There lias been no intelligence from the south, in regard to tho incoming crop, within the last two weeks, worthy of particular remark. The frosts which hava occurred havo been very light, and the bulk of the crop maturing, has, as fur as 1 can learn, escaped with but little injury from this source, conse quently the estimates remain much tho same as those previously advised.
