Anecdote of Jenny Lind.—We find the follow ing of Jenny Lind in the Horn* Journal: “During her first visit here, n Swede called and sent up a note in his native language, requesting to see her. She did not remember the name, ns she i end it,but when the young man came in she nt once remem bered his countenance—an old play fellow when they were childien together at school. She inquired his circmstancee. He i9 a cabinet maker, retiding with his wife and children nt Brooklyn. The next day Jenny drove over and made the wife of h«i old school fellow along visit. Again, next day just before leuv. ing the city for Boston, she went aeain. The hus band was not at home. She gave to the wile u note for him—he opened it on his return—it contained a sweetly worded request tliut lie would allow her to iveto his children a memento of their father's school- iendship with Jenny Lind. The •memento’ wus a check for ten thousand dollars. This anecdote, we sure our readers is correct in all its particulars.— The fashionables say it is impossible to get a visit from Jenny Lind. White and Vanderbilt, two commissioners from the New York Company for constructing the Nicaragua cauel, arrived in Lon- dm on the 5th ultimo; and, after a short period of negotiation, a satisfactory anangement was comple- Curious Revolutionary Relic.—A little while since, as the great-grandson of Lewis Morris, one of he sign ers of the Declaration of Independence, was looking over some old family papers, he discovered an orig inal address in the hand-writing of bis great-grand father, composed, as it seems, lor the guidance of the people of New York. We shall publish this interest- ng document, with which we have been polile'y fa vored, as toon a9 we can find space, and trust that the spirit it breathes in behalf of the Union may have a happy influence upon the minds of men, who «re now tossed about by every wind of political doctrine. Lewis Morris was born in Morrisania, in this State, in 1726. Educated at Yale College, he returned from his academic pursuits, and became a farmer in* his native town. lie was opiuont, and desired no addi tion to his fortune but in the struggle against the mother country, his sympathies were for his native land. In 1775 he was sent from New York to thn Continental Congress, where he distinguished him self, being appointed to confer with the aborigines, and to bring thim over to the American side. ted with the British authorities. It is probable that this great work will bo commenced without much delay. Messrs. White and Vanderbilt have just re turned to New-\ ork. The Synod of Pittsbug.—Old School Presbytrian, bare had the Fugitive Slave Bill under discussion.— Arcport accompanied with a preamble and resolu tions, was submitted asserting in substance, that in points of conscience, involving a vjgfation of moral principle or Christian duty, the law of Cod is supreme over that of man, and should, accordingly, be obey ed in preference to the latter This gave rise to much discussion, when finally, a aeries of resolutions, reported by Rev. Dr. Wilson, were adopted by 4G yeas to 24 nays. These Resolu* take the ground that any action, upon this sub. ject, by the Synod at this time is inexpedient and use- leas. A protest by 18 members, was then entered sgtinst the action ot tho Synod, as not adequate to the exigency of the case. {jp Accounts from Rio de Janeiro to the 10th 8ept.,state that the agitation of negro emancipation In Brazil has already tended to increase the pending difficulties betwen this country and Buenos Ayres, as all relations between both nations now confirm the opinion previously entertained that a rupture is at hand. Toe internal broils that have disturbed the re- poae of Montevideo and the adjacent provinces are but mere matters of moonshine, compared with tho consequences that will ensue on its introduction; and before its consummation, which eventually will oc cur, the be6t blood in the land will be sacrificed. Fbojc St. Domingo.—Preparations to Meet the Hajtieiu.—The schooner Howard, from St. Domin. go,27thT , ultimo, arrived at Boston on Saturday. The Journal says :— The Domicans are actively preparing to meet the Haytienp. Sant Anna has been placed in chief com mand, and is busily engaged in forming an army .— They are plentifully supplied with arms and amuni The ratification of u treaty with England, in which lhat nation acknowledges the independence from Hayti of the Reyublic of St. Domingo, was celebrated by h public dinner, at which the President of the Re public presided, and the British Consul was present, The latter made a speech, in which he said, among other things, that the English would not interfere in foe coming contest between them and Hayti. By the new treaty with England, the vessels of that Ration are allowed to enter the ports of the Republic at fifty cents less tonnage duty than are American veiaela. The Dominicans have a fleet of ten vessels of war, in 1776, and his name is in the great cluster of patriots attached to the Declaration of Jndependence. In 1798 he died ut his furm, in the seventy-first year of his age. The address, which vve shall soon publish, ia an ap peal to the citizens of New York on the constitution proposed by a convention of the United State*, for their future government, in 1787. it is brief, yet full of interest—concise, yet largely charged with, putii- otism and practical common sense, and important for its views with respect to the sacred nature of the Union.—New York Herald. Each day, the mechanic of wlium we have spoken attentively conti mplated the funeral trains. He dis dainfidly disregarded the plumed hearse of the rich, followed by their black clad heirs. But every time that there passed before him the modest bier of a poor unfortunate whom no mourner followed, hu quitted every employment, his work, his ale house crew, and accompanied the funeral car.
