New Failure.—A weaving fabric has been patented
In England, composed eutircly of fur. It is described
as suited to all purposes of apparel, cither for ladies
or gentlemen, and as being lighter, softer, firmer
and wanner than any other material ever used for
clothing.
Extraordinary Invention The Now-York cor.
respondent of the Philadelphia Inquirer lias the fol
lowing :
“I saw a machine to-day, which, if I am not mis
taken, is destined to create a revolution in tho pre
paration of sugar. In my presence, some two hun
dred weight ot sugar, of the dirtiest character im
aginable, nnd as black us soot, was placed in it, and
in six minutes by my watch it came out white, dry
und perfectly clean and sweet. Knowing nothing of
mechanic*. I cannot give yon a good description oi it
All that I .can say is, that the sugar is put in a hol
low cylinder lined with wire cloth, which revolves
at tho rate of about three hundred times a minute,
and after muking about fifteen liuudrcii revolutions,
tile sugar is found to bo clean and dry. Centrifugal
motion cleans it. The machine wus first applied to
drying cloths, but it is admirably suited for clarify-
ing oil, rectifying sugar, and a thousand other useiul
purposes.”
Boston, Nov. 6.—Tho Whigs of tile eighth Con
gressional district, favorable to tire rejection ol
Mr. Horace Mann, met at Dearbou's to-day and nomi
nated him, against the regularly selected ticket.—
Those who voted for the address suite that the reso
lutions adopted by the last Legislature, were passed
to be sustained witli vital effect, and not to be a dead
letter. The contest in this district is likely to provfc
n severe one.
Arrival ok the U. 9. frigate St. Lawrence.—
The U. 9. frigato At. Lawrence, IIiram Paulding.
Commander, from the river Weser, arrived at New-
Tors on Wednesday. The St. Lawrence has been
ib-cnt from the United States over two years, dur*
mg which time sho has been actively engaged in
cruising in European and Mediterranean sens, where
ibehas visited the following ports, viz: Cowes three
times, Bremen four times, Southampton twice, Lis
bon twice, Cadiz once, Spithead twice, Copenhagen
twice, Stockton (Sweden) once, Elsineur once, Port
Jlahon once, Naples twice, Messina once, Palermo
Wire,nnd Cagliari, Sardinia.

be purchased nt that price in tbc counties of Johnson,

of (ireeneville advertises in tiio Spy throe hundred
bushels for sale.
Interesting to Iron Founders—Machine for
Making Moulds.—An ingenius ninchinist of Wash
ington, Mr. C. Warren, has just matured a most
singularly contrived machine for making moulds in
sarnlfor iron founding. We learn from the Repub
lic. that, the sand that is fed into a hopper, notunlike
that of a gristmill, is carried through various pro*
cesses, nail finally brings out the perfect matrix of
say model applied. It is not only ndapted to iron
tubes, or other long or slender objects, but is ausccp-
e of being applied to the production of moulds
it other torms. Another invention by the some
penticmnn consists of a new mode of connecting iron
pipes, which greatly facilitates the laying them; nnd
is such manner that they may be readily removed
Joint by joint, without disturbing tho adjoining sec*
tions, when change or repair is necessary.
New Printing Machine.—The recent invention
of Jeptha A. Wilkinson, of Providence, R. I., of a
rotary printing machine, different from any other
[ now in use, promises to Work a great revolution in
I printing. The motions of the press are rotary, and
| the typo being placed on cylinders, each print a sop.
into side of the Bheet. The paper is only cut ns it
conies from the presB, being placed on the press for
printing in large rolls os it come from tho mills, and
n many thousand yards in length us may bn desired.
Wo paper being tuken frdm the mill, and of the nee-
j cssary degree of dampness, is printed, cut off into
sheets, and folded by the press at tho rate of 23,000
sheets on hour, requiring only one man to place tho
i tolhuponlthe'pressjand remove tho papers as printed)
, cut end folded by the machine, its cost is less than
Rdoublo cylinder Napier press, nnd it is said to pos-
•cn great advantages over any other press in its ef
fect upon the type.
Ihe Reptile Room by Night.—Tho following
