I THE MORNING NEWS, The Wink Chop of Fbance for 1850.—It ie now lielloccrtaincd that the quality of the wine of the I present year will he very inferior, in consequence of Itkiraiii, which prevented the vinos from ripening. In*result bus been a general rlf e of price on all old Isimr. liven the wine of 1849, which was consider- 1(4 of middling quulity, is now disposed of more Iniily. In the Beanjolas the grapes were gathered Idsriii? torrents of rain, and although the produce liioormous, the wine is weak and sour. In the four Isotlhcm departments the crop will not produce more than two-thirds of the quantity of Inst year fa the Bordelais the quality of the wine will be Isioilsr to that of 1837, and more green than of 1843. I.N3UBRKCTI0N in' CHINA.—In China an insurrec tion of a serious character has broken out in the Itutlieni province's. ] Aprctender to the throne lias collected pnurmy of 5HCK) turn, plundered several of the towns, aud Mil; aims at overthrowing the present Tartar Em- petoi snJ restoring the ancient native or Ming dyn- iity. Great alarm exists at l’ekin, and serious steps Buvebcen taken to suppress the rebellion. There is Jinyjereport that the imperial troops have hitherto mad the worst of it. | TttOrerland China Mail gives the following in- ivstiug article ns to this rebellion : “Thejirovince of Kwungsi is at present the theatre ^fuen ius outbreak, but, whether on the part of 'it unsubdued tribes or of the banditti who infest tsborders, is not very clearly ascertained. There Isnodoubt, however, that a large body of men is in pi!rebellion against the imperial authorities, over pm they have obtained some important advanta- |n Recently they have taken the-chief City of the mo district, a place of great commercial importance, pitting the province of Kwangtung on the north- pet, the city being situuted on u navigable branch uf ftCanton llivcr. It is further reported « e J !umo P er “ ons of importance having fallen in that the Governor of the province, and the U*! magistrate of VVoo-chau, have committed sui- rp!® despair; but these reports also require contir TjJ ll,n Tile province contains many independent r, J who have never owned subjection to the pres- Fdynasty. exhortations of their spiritual comforters. The butch er saluted his acquaintance amongst the crowd and jolted with them oil tho beauty of the weather; and the marble polisher turned his head away from the priest, exclaiming, “l die a true Italian,” Alter some delay the mangled bodies of the first lour criminals one of whom, having risen after the general die- charge, was obliged to receive five other successive shots, were tnkcu before the twoinipenitenteto hasten their determination—the horrid spectacle induc ed the butcher to receive the sncronient, but tho oth er remained obdurate to the last, and was shot with out being reconciled to the Church. Two Pigeons Aiibived from Sir John Boss.— We have learned from a private source, that on Fri day last, two ot tile carrier pigeons taken with him- when lie left the Port carrier, and some of which were to be dispatched home in the event of his either finding Sir John Franklin or being frozen, in arrived at Ayr, finding; their way at once to the dove-cot which they occupied previous to being taken nWuy. The birds, wo understand, arrived within a short time of earli other, but neither of them, we regret to be ihformed, conveyed anything in the shape of letter or note of any kind. On” ot them, indeed, had some document at tached, and wns found to bo considerably mutilated, it having apparently been shot away. The time they were liberated by Sir John Itoss is of course uncer tain, but taking into consideration the well known powers of flight possessed by the carrier pigcon.it cannot have been very long Bincethey left our gallant couutryman. The distance the creatures must have traversed cannot lie far short of2000 miles, nnd as they travel by sight and not by scent the fact is the more extraordinary. Sir John Ross, we believe, took five pigeons witli him, which, it may be remembered were stated in the ln6t accounts received of him, to hnvo been at that time nil ulive, so that there are still three to he accounted for.—North British Mail. Native Demand in India for New-Orleans Cotton for Heed.—\\’e have already noticed tho fact that Mr. James Aspinall Turner, the President of the Manchester Commercial Association, and sev- eynl'othcrcotton manufacturers of Manchester nnd the neighborhood, have sent out orders to India to pur chase cotton grown there from New-Orleans seed, of course with no view to immediate profit, but solely from a desire, by enusing a demand ior it in tho inte rior of the country, to cncourago the native growers to extend the cultivation of this desirable variety of cotton. By the overland mail, however, Mr. Turner has received a letter informing him Hint in all proba bility neither his commission, nor nny of the others sent out with the some object, will he executed, and that for a reason which is considerably more satis factory and gratifying than even the duo fullfilmeut of the orders. It seems that the nntive dealers have been very ea gerly competing with the Government in the pur chase of New Orleans seed cotton; nod that in the interior of the District of Dharwar they arc givinz very high prices for it, as much as 100 rupees the can dy. In consequence of this large nnd growing de mand, it is believed that all that has been grown this season has been cleared off. This is an exceedingly favorable feature in the cotton cultuto of England ; showing as it does, that without the interference of Government, or the exertions of parties in this coun try, going out of the regular course of th“ir business —a practice which could not be expected to continue long—a demand is rapidly spring up, indeed, has al ready arisen, in a natural and ordinary way, nml which is, therefore, likely to he lasting, and which must cause a very considerable extension in the culti vation ot that description of cotton which is most needed to supply the wants of our manufurturers at home.—Manchester Gu.ird.ian. pj|F A newly invented steam diving hell boat Is periorming wonders on the western waters in res cuing property from sunken vessels. It nns been ut work nt the reck of the steamer Charles Carroll, nnd in about three or four weeks the entire cargo in the hull, consisting of some 4301) hnrrels pork and lsrd, wns taken out. Rnd finally the hull itself wrs raised and removed from the channel of the river, to whieh it had formed a very serious obstruction. This extensive job completed, the boat proceeded to the Ohio, where machinery nnd boilers of a sunken boat were taken out. Thence she wns directed to the spot, u short distance below Cairo, where tho st-mner Nuptune sunk, thirty years ago, and with a dive of fifty-five feet, a number of articles were- rescued, which were considered hopelessly lost. Theiron chest of theboRt, containing sundry articles and a docket book filled with what wero once bank notes, were among the contents of the chest, but they disappeared as aeon ns brougnt in contact with the air, und nothing remained but the calfskin in which they we enveloped. About fivo hundred pigs of lead, in a good state of preservation, were also tnken from the deep, and a jar of butter, deeidedly the oldest now extant From Late English papers. |AtttxiBAORDiNARY Bull.—An extraordinary Bull : .11| d itrntj Fig I •CO.
