Col. Richard M. Johnson whose decease, at Frank fort, Kentucky, we have already announced, as buying been reported to us by t- legraph ot the 19th. was about 70 years old, at the time of his dentil. He has, from an early age, been in public life. In 1807, he was chosen a member of the Kentucky Legislature and held this post, by successive elections for muny yent s. In 1813 he was authorized to inisea volunteer regiknent of cavalry of 1,000 men t, fight the British and Indians on tile North West under Gen. Harrison. At the battle of the Thames Johnson distinguished himself by breaking Ihe line of the British infantry under Proctor. The fame of killing Teeumseh in the buttle had also been attributed to Col. J. perhaps tru ly. In 1819 he was transferred ft om the House ol Rep. resentatives to the Senate to serve out an unexpired term. After that he was rc chosen, and remained in the Senate till 1829. Then he went back to the ouse where he remained till 1837, when he became Vice President under the Van Burcn dynasty. In 1829 the Sundny Mail agitation he ng brought before the House, he, as Chairman of tile Commit!, eon Post Of fices and Post Roads, presented tbe famous report against the su pensions of the Mails n Sunday.
