HE MORNING NEWS, Robbery and Muhdkr in Texas.—TheUrowns. villo (Texas) Sentinel, of the 30th ult, states that a brutal murder was perpetrated on the body ot thn occupant of the Palo Alto House, an old man, 60 years of age, media distant between Brownsville and Point Isabel, on the night of the 27th ult., by six ruf fians. The nssaseins were disguised by means of masks worn over their iaqes. There were no oilier persons iti the house at the time the murderers en tered but the old gentleman and his lady—the latter they confined with cords, and then plundered the house. The old woman, we areinformed, states that the ruffians commenced tho attRck upon the old man with knives, who instantly sprang to his gun, nnd sue ceeded in discharging one barrel of it before he fell, literally out to pieces with their murderous knives.— It is thought, however, that one of the monsters has been severely injured by the shot of their victim, as considerable blood was found upon one ot the posts ot the piaza, supposed to havo come from one of the robbers in leaning against it for support. After the consummation of their fiendish design, they bound the old lady, as stated above, plundered the house, and decamped. Tho murdered man was named Colton, nnd it is said the assassins were all Mexicans. A reward of live hundred dollars will be offered for their arrest and conviction. The Nicaragua Canal,—The New -Orleans Pic. tjtne, in speaking on this subject says:— An snnouncementhas been made in the papers very Htcnsively that British capitalists linve agreed to aken large share of the stock of the New-York Com- iiny,i’or the construction of the Nicaragua CnnHl lewcen the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific. The istement is rather two broad. A company ot'Eng- Jiih capitalists has made a conditional arrangement with the agents of the American company for tho liberty oi being interested in the enterprise at a future in. The surveys and estimates are yet to be mie, and if theeo shall prove satisfactory, nnd the olculations of income and expenditure shnll prove ntisfnctory, then the British parties have the option oftaking one halt' of the proposed stock. The whole imoustof the capital required is ,£4,000,000, about raty millions of dollars, of which ten millions will jeassigned to British subscribers, if they decide in fiver ot sustaining the enterprise. AU further ac tion i» suspended until the surveys and estimates ure furnished in a satisfactory manner. Theconstruction of the ship canal, says the New fork Sun, though a matter of grunt importance to the United Stutes and to the world, is yet one of secon dary coneideration, when taken in connection with England’s atrocious usurpations in Central America, fcousurpations involve the introduction of a new principle of international law, a principle according which, England might at any time,'seize a member of theCnmanche tribe of Indians, for instanc- 1 , put crown upon his head and call him King ; then take lint under “protection,” and Ay virtue of such “pre- tectorate,' 1 usurp a dominion over a wide tract of rountrjr, now, the undisputed property of Mexico, and forbid to citizens of tlffe United States the right (J passage through said “protected” territory. Art* vi prepared to admit that a principle so subversive of injustice, nnd right, and order, shall be first infro- upon this continent ? Ifwe be not, then should vent once nnd emphatically insist upon the relin. ajibment by England of her infamous Mosquitian 'Protectorate.” Our honor, nn’d our interests as n nation, demand that this course should be adopted. The following concluding paragraph from the art! cleofthe Picayune, shows that American interests are Buffering from the present order of things in Nic aragua. The Government of Nicaragua is remonstrating very strongly against the continued occupation of their territory by British troops, ami (ire complaining to tho United States that the advantages they thought they had gained by the interference oi the United Stales, in the Bulwer and Clayton treaty, are withheld from them. They have gained nothing by our pro- tecting attitude, and while this difficulty remains un settled, and Great Britain keeps possession ot the con trolling point of the canal, the prospect of any hearty concurrence between the capitalists nf the two coun- triea, in a common effort to make this road, is evident- Jhopeless. This adds inducements of interest to Wothcr pressing reasons of public policy, why our hoverament should take the earliest steps possible to bring this state of uncertainty to a close, and should know exactly what Great Britian understands by this treaty, and annul itas eoon as possible, if she in sists upon any construction which authorizes her late conduct in Central America. The Clayton and Bulwer treaty must either be promptly and decidedly • maintained, according to the renae in which it was framed by Mr. Clayton, ratified by the Senate, nnd approved by the American Purple; or else that treaty must be annulled, and t one, recognizing to the fullest extent, the right of Nicaragua, adopted in its stead. Meantime, it becrimen the solemn duty of the press “ri people of the United States, to raise their voices ainat British aggressions and usurpations upon this continent. A CirAMPioNnF^WoJiAN’s'llroHTS.—The Lowell tiering furnishes an interesting account of Miss We- ‘tr, a young Belgian lady, who stands pre-eminent anisug the advocates of woman’s rights. Her prac tice is in accordance with her theory, and she wears "rale attire nnd carries on a farm. She is handsome, -only 24 years old, dresses in the Parisian fashion oi black dress coats and pants, with bull vest. Her de- iacoa of the practice is racy. Tho nether garment (diesays) whs first worn in the bifurcated form by *ra wonted of ancient Judea. Tho exclusive claim which man so pertinaciously maintains to the use ot '“is gnrment, is arbitrary, without n solitary argument to mpport it, not even that of prior usage. Nature nw er Intended that tho sexes should be distinguished ^apparel. The beard which she assigned solely to uiaais the natural token of his sex. (Miss We ter "ray uot only take our, bat, but pants also.) She claims in addition every civil, political, and ecclesias iicalrightfor woman, and it is said that her every Word, look and action is charactorizedwith tho most tclined womanly delicacy. Rumobejj Abbest ok GovKbnob Quitman. A ra »or is in circulation at Louisville that a telegraphic dispatch went on on Saturdny, from the U. S. Bis. liict Attorney at New-Orleans, to President Fillmo.e aaking for the necessary force to take Governor Quit "ran, of Mississippi, to New-Orleans, to bo tried for ah c Sed participation in tho Cuban invasion. This is a doubtful story, we think. A'Slavb Stats in Embbyo.—The Cherokees, '-hoctnwg, Chickasnws, Creeks and Seminoles, own a large number of slaves, negroes. These Indian 'nbes, that were removed here a few Years ago, m consequence of being surrounded by Stated will ojait, in a short time, too, he surrounded with States, oorl be hedged in with a dense white population. A lint will be the consequence? Why, It is Pj a,n (“ough to be seen, that in a few ‘Jiese irt-*? n 'rabe. will have to be organized into a territorial SOTeramen^ and then be admitted into the United tates as a slave State. What will frlenda ot The Hoa Trade.—The Louisville Journal of Wednesday last says :— Several houses have been pneking foj the last few days, but the business thus tar lias been mostly on drovers’ account. We understand that drovers are paying $3 for the heaviest hogs—43 gross In Shelby county. This is equal to $2 75 net in Louisville. Bridge over the Ohio.—Mr. Pope, from tho Committee on the Judiciary, in the Senate of Ken tucky, has reported a bill providing for the incorpo ration of a company to construct a bridgq across the Ohio River at Louisville, To avoid any interference with navigation, the 'bridge is required to be 100 feet above the highest known point of high water. The piers, also, are to be 700 feet apart. Nautical Improvement.—The London papers announce a new invention for reeling topsails from the deck. With this contrivance sail can be taken in during a gale of wind,-in short time, without sendingn man aloft. It has neen tried on one of the English vessels, and found to Work admirably. A deaf and dumb child, when asked to de scribe lightning, said it was the “opening and ahut_ ing of God's eye.” NEW GOODS! NEW GOODS! BERNARD F.
