ME MORNING NEWS. •a . The JLion and tile Eagle. The Mosquito Buzz.—-We find at length that the Nicaragua question begins to excite some serious at tention among the mild patriots of the Press, and that the decorous indignation, which flows down their itHtely leaders on Isthmian politics, meets with an accelerated echo from all classes of the People. It alias already become common, in all clusses, that our contiuent has suffered a new invasion of monarchi cal influence, and nquiries begin to buzz about as to what course our Government intend to pursue, to maintain the integrity of its position as republican champion ot the hemisphere, and to resent the insult which has been recently put upon it, by the act of waylaying-its citizens on the Mosquito coast, and exacting tribute from them for passing ovch, what may. in a certain sense, be termed, its own soil. - The inquiry is none too early. The territory in which this abuse is practised lies within Republican juris diction and has been virtually ceded to our guardi- aiSliip, by a tratemal state, in reciprocation for a protection which we have volunteered to it, and to which, if ties'of any kind are sacred, we are bound. %e rpute^o the iJWies, which confers the com- Tnercial Bapfemacy.'of the word, lies, tor the present, across th^j domains of the sovereign republic of Ni caragua. Heretofore it i an around the extremity of Africa, and was controlled by Britain, but altering by ^ volution.) effected by the enterprise of tlnf Stutes, the channel turns to us. ’ This diver- eion in our favor has been produced entirely-by the force of our own progressbut though it is the just reward of our merits, Britain begrudges us the pnp, and seeks to wrest it irom us by a course of ptfficy which is as audacious as it is base. She leaves W ocean tracks, makes a descent upon the North American coast tn the Gulf of Mexico, and, under pretense 61 atfyrding protection to a leprous savage, Mulshes custom houses and a provincial govern ment in the very gateway of our continent The re public of Nicaragua, in which this aggression is per formed, resists tne outrage, and refers Britain tn the United States, her great ally in interest, as a com- K aniun in the protest. Britain, however, takes no otice of the United States ; she has had disputes ithus before, and, knowing how to worst us iudl- "“'flomatic contest, steadily proceeds in her designs. For the purpose of giving color to her operations, she erects tho savage, whom she lias taken under her protection, into a crowned king, and in his name, ipipads her ulcerous power over the entire Mosqui to coast. At this state of the affair, our govenment jffltty interferes, reminds the Lion in a gentle toice, very unlike that of the Eagle when he is pium gest this insolenco; but if wo possess tho spiri* which directed our ancestors through the two wars, we will put ourselves in harness to brush this Mos quito realm from the map, and if need be, to drive the vicious agents who have been buzzing so mischiev ously among the distressed republics of the isthmus, into the Gult of Mexico after it. The People of this nation wish to know once more, if Britain is amenable to the same prosecution for aggression, which we would visit upon Mexico or Spain. They wish to know whether we are as ready to fight for principle as profit, and to engage a formidable antagonist, in the cuuseof right, as a feeble one. There is more in this business than lies upon tlie surface. We advise politicians to look ot itclo8elyand treat it properly at the. outset, for it may become the question of 1852. The New Party.—Attbe Union znocting in New Orleans, Senators Down and Foote asserted that the two great political parties would be henceforth merged into one great and new party, that of the Un ion. The Delta commenting on their remarks, says: We can't say that we should regret the organization ot such a party on proper grounds. The old party names and cries have pretty much lost their efficacy, and some new ones'would no doubt be popular. The only difficulty, however, in organizing a Union' party, will be to determine upon the tost or standard ot one’s love of the Union. Home persona think the best way to perpetuate the Union, is to preserve the Constitution in all its original integrity and purity.— It that is the main feature ofthenew Union party, we should be happy to stand on it,—but it it is to be nar rowed down to this or that plan of adjustment which certain politicians may conceive is the only mode by which the Union can be preserved, we beg leave to say that it is not broad enough for the llnioqparty of the country. The meeting last night, was the spon taneous expression of the attachment of the people to the Union,—-a feeling which is universal hero, and which in its at*dor and enthusiasm did not stop to ex amine, very minutely, the basis or platform on which it was .organized. It is a very ingenious and adroit political move, to identify the late Compromise with the cause of the Union; but we imagine, that when the sober second thought begins to operate, the*peo pie will discover that the opponents of that measure, are just as ardent friends of tho Union,as its support ers. Singular.—In the Island of Goa, near Bombay, there is a singular vegetable called the sorrowful tree, because it only flourishes m the night. At sun set no flowers are to be seen, and yet half an hour after it is quite full of them. They yield a sweet smell, but the sun no sooner begins to shino upon them than some of them fall off, and others close |ap> $nd thus it continues flowering auring the whole year. STOVES TIN WARE, &c., dee. ed witlkprosnerity and strength, ihat we have pro claimed to , die world that we have shut the con- tiiieiitlrom further monarchical encroachment and that we cannot suffer ourself to bo despoiled of our interests, or disgraced of our .word, without making flume show for it. The Lion, though bellicose enough his disposition, does not feel inclined to make a warlike issue on the point at once, but, having confi dence in the arts of his diplomacy, proposes a con vention and an arrangement. The proposal is ac- ceeded to on our part, and Mr. Clayton and Mr. Bul- ?ur meet. A treaty is formed, at tho lapse of a given jjfflfiiti? promulged, and the people of the United *-tates. who had relied upon the declarations of Mon* roeund Polk, that wqwere the champion of the re publican integrity of the continent, are told to re- ■ joice in the fact that Britain has consented to divide heburden of our high honor, and become joint pro- w »th us, of the new China route. This, though mortifying enough to national senti- ® p Dt, Was pussed over by the journals, because it Waa only a sacrifice of honor, and tho treaty went tamely down without exciting any marked public condemnation. It is a rule, however, with nations with men, that every sacrifice ot principle is attend ed by some practical evil, and tho result in this case has proved that we are not exempt from the penal ties of the maxim. Scarcely ia the treaty cold be- i?l e - We two wen-of-war on the Mosquito coast; a Mtish police established at the mouth of.the San Ju- f river, and a tribute levied by the British Consul at yreytown upon every American citizen who attempts 0 travel on the route which was originally granted :°us by Nicaragua, and which, by the ’ate Bulwer J f ft ty was guaranteed as free to all the world. Nay J’nat is-worse, the Government which granted us his route, ia told that this v^ry tree# has recognized “‘ e Mosquito kingdom which dcspqfls her of her ter- Jtory, and that she rmwttiot After heraelt with flo peB of a protection Irom the United States, which M Dow virtually abandoned her to her fate. TO} liardly can imagine what the republic of Nic- which hus granted us so many favors in ex- rotation of our alliance, can think ot us in this trait, “Jt We know what wc ought to think of ourselves. ' Ve °«ght to think that wo had acted with perfidy to ” Ur weak neighbor, and that we had extracted her ? r ants and favors from her by a false preturn 8e «*■ uance, wnich so far from doing her good, has pre- jniedher from making saving terms with a pirate, /Jo has been shoving nis weapon, inch by inch “to her throat, while she lias been extending her ,,na to ua for succor. We should think this ot Selves, unless we, ourselves, have been betrayed } y the perfidy ofEnglanri; and if we have, we should ! Prompt means to call her to account. Wo must ao this if we wish any longer to hold up our heads ^ong nations. We would not puffer such an inva- 81un of the continent from a weak power, and our ■°uragp and our prido.feel an appeal ten times as r 9 D e to resist the outrage from a strong one. **ven though we were unpledged to maintain the integrity of the North American Continent from Eu- Aipean encroachment,we could not without dishonor wud idly by mid g e0 n feeble republic trampled pon by a monstrous monarchial power*. «nd not ; y r obbed of its domain, but insulted by the crea- _-°n of a kingdom, and the coronation ot a king upon * portion of its soil. If we forget what we owe to l e republic of Nicaragua, as a congenial neighbor, r 2 ,nu «t not forget our own honor nor overlook our FD interests. We too* it upon ouraelvs to declare It • and again in 1846, with a voice *}*** .)Dnded to the confines of the earth, that the States considered herself the guard 1 an the republican integrity of the North Ameri- r? n Continent and* would not suffer colonization or fJSpwhment upon any portion of it from that time J/DJi forever, Neverthe less and in contempt of this Dpifesto Britain has introduced her East Indian P° J icy in that purt of Central America which com- the road to Asia and not only seized, in the «Uai of a naked subsidiary.a piece ofits domains, but « 8 a king—a North American king, W,°? r ' tr y races.
