Another of the Ministers of the Methodist Epis- eopil Church is out with a card td-day, stating that he was not present at the m-eting where certain resolutions were passed in opposition to the Fugi tive Slave Law. and denying that he had any connec tion with tbo origin or passage of the resolutions His name is John G. Smith. Pastor of the Ci-ntinary Church, Brooklyn It should be borne in mind, that the persons comprising that meeting have never pub lished their names, and I doubt if they will do so now. There, has been another gratifying movement In this respect, in a meeting recently held nt New Haven. Connecticut, in opposition to that one, by th, numbers .of the sara • sect. They solemnly protest against the proceedings and reaolutb-ns, disavow allsympatny with them, and publish the following : Resolved, That we believe the resolutions adopted by that meeting upon the “Fugitive Slave Law,” are unsound in principle, injudicious, and unwise, east ing a reproach npon oar rulers, tending to increase the already too fierce spirit in our church, and sub verting our harmony and glory; and that we disclaim ail participation and sympathy in tliclr sentiments, and believe them unpatriotic, and tending to disor ganization. The city Tract Society holds its 24th aniveraary at the Tabernacle this evening; Christians of all de nominations cordially unite in this organization, and assist in disseminating gospel truths among those who cannot be approached, by the ordinary ,pinans. During the -past year, in has. maintained twenty Was'ionaries who labor exclusively in the different wards of the city, and by whom the efforts of over eleven hundred tract visitors have been di rected. During the same period, more than one mil lion three hundred thousand tracts have been distri buted | 'Another great moral work is going on in our city, and mihe very henrt of the Five Points, too once the sink of iniquity and crime oi every discription. On thanksgiving evening a supper was given to about two hundred children, at the mission room, where they attend school, and a more bright, happy lot of faces, we have seldom seen. A few months since these suuie children were ragged, dirty, squalid, and aomo of them sent out daily to beg or steal to pro vide liquor for their abandoned parents. Such a transformation, and in so short a time, proves what tan be accomplished, by concentrated efforts direct- fd in a good cuuse, und the result must be highly gratifying to those engaged in the philanthropic world ; as it is to all who desire the wellfure of their lellow creatures. The second article sent to the Navy Yard, for the World’s Fair, is a lot of American Champagne wine, manufactured at Cincinnati, from grape's that are grown in the viillev of the Ohio. I have tasted hock made there of fine quality, and, no doubt, th cham pagne will compare favorably with tbo French pro duction. : The lease for ten years of the Brooklvn ferries has been granted to the present lesees. at a yearly rent ol 835,000 being only 8509 over the present rental. The daily receipts ot these ferries are immense, but the expense of keeping them is very great. They are compelled to run boats through the night, and tho ferriage is dow only one cent. Secretary Corwin’s report has caused considerable talk in Wallstreet; and those who expected that a loan Would he required, and hoped to make some thing by it, are oi course dissatisfied; as the impres sion is, that it will nut bo wonted at present. The Ptuposition to raise the tariff ot ’46 meets with no favor with the free trade disciples. Alterations and improvements are the order of the day in tills city,9lie metamorphoses that tuke place arc like the work of magic. Broadway as it was, and as if is are very unlike each other, and a view of that thoroughfare taken some en years since would afford some idea ot tho progress of things in this mighty city. Every traveller hitherward, knows the Frank- bn House at tho corner of Dey Street and Broadway; that has lately changed hands, and is to be altered and improved. The lower part is to be converted 'nto, stores, but the hotel is to remain up stairs. The work of widening Dey Street ten feet has also com menced; when this is completed it will bring it into a • line with Jonn Street, almost; mid a fine wide tho roughfare will bo obtained, trom the North to the East river. Every private dwelling is fast disappear. 1 'ng trom Broadway, and is replaced by stores of the most elegant description. The female carpet weavers in the factory ot Hig gins k Co., in Forty Second ft., have had a regular revolt, in consequence ol their wages having been re duced about twenty per cent. They would’ut work themselves, nor let others work at toe rates offer d, and n melee broke out the other night, in which tho Police who interfered got the worst ot it, some return iD B from the field with crushed heads and bruiaed bo dies. It is astonishing how desperate these females are when arous -d, huwinucb lumblikeaod herolike q a • itiea can exist in the sume nature, is a puzzle. Abe last report li om the sent of war, left th women vie torious. Uniortunato Mr. Higgins, I would nt be in hie skin, should the revoliers cu-cli him. A report oi the Fire Department tur the past yea has just appeared ; It appears that there has been ad- ded to the Permanent Fund, during that perio , 532, including the 83000 from Jenny Lind. 1 he has been paid for charities, funerals, donation to sic &c, $10,173. ., , oh„ Tho Asia left to-day at noon for Liverpool.
