THE MORNING NEWS. the shattered fragments of the boat, may be sleeping their eternsl sleep, while others may havefallen over board, and sunk to rise no more. A thousand pain ful rumors are atlnat. but we await the development of facte. Wo understood, however, that Mr. Old ham, the clerk, had been carried away insensible— that tho mate had escaped with a bruken arm, that the captain was blown tuto the river, but was picked up without serious injury,—and that a lady who was severely itijured, had been removd to tho residence of her friends. Among tile effects of this explosion, not the least curious is, that the safe of the Knoxville was thrown completely over the Yorktownaud lodged on another boat, (tho name of which we forget) without receiv ing any material Injury. From the New Orleans Delta. Another Awful Explosion . tt'ehad not finished the detail of the melancholy rflpcts of the recent disastrous explosion of tho An glo-Norman, by which some eight orton of our most useful citizens were hurrod into eternity, and fifteen or twenty seriously injured—indeed, we were tn- taged yesterday, about 6 o’clock f. M., in the very set of noticing the death of another of the victimsof tiiis disaster, when we suddenly perceived a shock strongly resembling that produced by the explosion of the Louisiana, a year ago, which shook the whole building like an earthquake. Our mind being en gaged with the subject of explosions, instantly seiz ed upon tiiis incideut with alarm and apprehension. We rushed into the streets and observed a large num ber oi persona rushing down Poydras. We lollowed in die crowd. As we approached the river, our fears were augmented at every step by the various snd discrepant accounts of a terrible explosion. No two recounts concurred save in two points, that it was the Knoxville which had exploded atthe foot of Poyd ras 6treet, and that she had a large quantity of pow der on board. This little circumstance kept many , persons from approaching the scone of the disaster. A similar rumor was circulated In regard to the Louisiana. Such statements, if untrue, are very rep- rrlien-ihle, as they are calculated to create uunocessn • ry alarm, and prevent persons from lending their aiil to those in distress. Hut this alarm could not intimidate the large crowd that rushed to the scene of the disaster lust night which was so great as seriously to preveutthe pas sage of the wounded, and to obstruct the movements oi those who went there to ussist them. Before we arrived atthe wharf, we were attracted by a group assembled arouud.an object on the levee, some two •large , ., muxs, and thirty feet long. It was whole and entire, with uut fracture or breach; the Hues, however, were col lapsed, showing, conclusively, that there must have been a deficiency of water in the boiler. We left the boilier and followed its track to the river. This was clearly marked by a white I ml moist trace, that led us to a large pile of flour barrels on the levee, which were found thrown into confusion, and many ot the barrels knocked to pieces. We then learned that the immense boiler hnu passed through the pile of flour barrels, without in the slightest degree diminishing its volume or force. We traced its passage ana Inund that it had been projected from the steamer j Knoxville, almost vertically being hurled a tew ieet frDmthe groundand and obliquely across thelevee, landing about three hundred feet Irom the boat — Many persons saw it careering over the Levee Its motion was undulatory, and it fell with a loud crash. A oinu who wus near, barely dodged the immense | projectile. On our arrival at the scene of the explosion, wo found a confused crowd, which was alternately pre6S- ! ed forward by curiosity, and driven back by [ excited by some awful report of powder m the hold. [ There were, howevor, not a few engaged in a 89 !” 1 ing those of the wounded who could be picked up- j We saw soveral of these miserable charred and bleedi..g objects, who appeared to be suffering in tense agonies.- laid out on tho whart, and others wno were dying placed in cabs, to be conveyed away. Several were taken out of the river, all ot them#i A Bad Fit.—A case was yesterday brought before Justice Smith inrolving perhaps a legal point of in terest. Judgment was given in favor of the plain tiff A. This is no doubt equity, and we are pleased to loam that it is law too —Washingion Republic. Go Lono.—A stuttering Vermonter was asked tho way to Waterbury With g'eat politeness he strove to say it was right ahead, but in vain. The more lie tried, he couldn't. At last, red in the face, and furi ous with unavailing exertion, he burst forth With— ••Gug,gug, go'long! dam ye! you'll gig, gig, git there atore 1 can "tell you I” BT Dr. Pusey, and some of his associates, have addressed a letter to the General Convention of tho Episcopal Churcn in the United Stutes of America, intimating that the expression of the full concurrence of the American clergy with the views entertained by them, would be of tho highest service -‘in a contest with heresy or indifference." Minister at Russia.—Hon Neil Brown, Minister at Russia, has written home that he shall ask to he recalled next summer. He says there is much less American trade with Russia than formerly, angi what there is,is mostly thrbugh Great Britain.
