UI20RGIA LEGISLATURE.
CorrcKpoiutonce of Daily Morning News.
Millkdgevillk, Dec. 1, 1851.
I have made tioino inquiries among members,
both of the Senate and House of Representa
tives, in relation to the proposed visit to Savan
nah, und it seems to meet with the approbation
of neurly all. There are probably one half of
the Representatives of the people in this Legis
lature who have never visited the commercial
metropolis ol this grout Stato. The present is a
favornblo time for them to execute such a pur
pose. 'They bavo tho example of the Ncw-
York Legislature, if one is wanted, and tho fa
cilities for going the one hundred nnd ninety
miles and returning are such that but little time
need be lost by tho excursion. I do not doubt
that the city of Savannah, renowned for her re
fined hospitality, will sustain her ancient repu
tation on the occasion. It warms the cockles of
every heart to think of the oysters, (F. R. S. f i. c.
fried, roasted, and stewed,) the lobsters, crabs,
shrimps, and other delicacies of the seaboard
that will be prepared for tho Legislative appe
tite, to say noting of tho ancient und rich wines,
ct cetera, for which Savannah is so fumous. 1
opine that Cluunico’s wedding—which whs the
green spot in Snucho UanztFs memory to the
end of liis life—was nothing to it.

architects is making tho desigu for a triumphal
arch, to extend across Broadway, from Stewart s

flowers. The desigu will bo novel, and tho

ful. He is expected to arrive on Thursday or
Friday next, and if the weather prove propitious,
the procession will probably take place on tho
following Monday.

Correspondence of Dully Morning News.
Nkw Youk, Nov. 29,1851.
As 1 expected, the Coroner’s Jury on tlie re^
cent calamity, have rendered a verdict replete
with Bunsby wisdom. They have discerned
tlmt the death-of the children was caused by suf
focation, which was caused, by fulling upon cuch
other iu the well hole of tlio stairs ; which was
cuused by the stuirs giving way. They also dis
covered that said haiiuisteis und stairs were very
dangerous, and tliut it was highly consulublo to
erect them in such u manner; but they carefully
avoid blaming any body—not even tho School
Commissioners, who were v monstrated with
ubout tho state of the bannisters, arc mentioned—
so that we have this result: The calamity was
the effect of culpable carelessness, or willul neg
lect, but nobody in particular was to blame.
uud the bereaved aucf sorrowing parents have the
poor consolation of knowing Hint iminvcstigution
of tho mutter took place, hut that tho lives ot
tlieir little darlings are nothing ill comparison
with tlie feelings of t,hose aguinst whom a verdict
of manslaughter should have been rendered.—
Oh! but this is a great city for tlm administration
of justice ; they had hotter take the hamlugo
from hor eyes us quickly as possible.
Thanksgiving Day passed off this year much
the same as usual; although I must say, that
intemperance did not prevail, so fur us my ex
pectations went; except in the matter of eating,
which by tho by, appear, to me, to ho as groat
an evil us drinking, intemperutely. The poor
were not forgotten, nnd the nrisouers were re
galed with thanksgiving lair, lor winch no doubt
ihey wore duly grateful. Tho jury on the trial
of a man iiamed Gramsig, charged with killing
his wife with poison, wns locked up during the
whole of Thanksgiving ovc, dav and night,
through tho obstinacy of one of their number,
nnd on Friday morning found him guilty. So
thcro is another added to tlio condemned ; a bill
of exceptions however will he granted no doubt.
Courts uppeur to have any amount of sympathy
