the Reaolitliuna of Georgia ngainnt interven

Senate then, by resolution, adjourned until
Wednesday, in order to nflbrd the members an
opportunity to visit tho steamer Ilnllic.
The day was occupiod by the House in de

ment rigidly to cnforco its pruviaions.

The Supreme Court havu decided that the
Wheeling Bridge Company may raise their
structure. Tho application for a draw has
been referred to Chancellor Wulworlh. Judge
Catron read the decision ill Mrs. dailies’case
to-day, which is adverse to Mrs. G., affirming
the deenfes of the Circuit Court. Justices
Wayne and Dauiel dissented from the opinion
of the Court.-
The naval officers in the city, with s parly
of two hundred, dined on board the lla/tic to
day. The President and Members of Congress

* Intervention.
It is becoming very evident that this ques
tion, in some shape or other, is to he made an
element of politicnl controversy in the coming
presidentiul election. As to tho Bhape it will
assume, or how parties will be arrayed upon it,
are yet matters of doubt. Tito New York

the ground assumed by Mr. Cass in his Into

A very large and fashionable audience at*
tended the Concert of Mnd'sclle Parodi, (it

tempt now a particular notice of the perform
ance cf tho respective artists, especially oh wc
have on a former occasion expressed our high
appreciation of the abilities ofMad'sellc P.\ mo

to Savannah, was only strengthened by the
concert of last eveuiug.
It will he seen that another Concert (nnd the
last,) will he given at St. Andrew’s Hall to
morrow night, for which an excellent pro
gramme is arranged.
Au Arrest.
An individual calling himself Sterling
Crump, alia* James Tompkins, ulins James
Johnson, said to be from Richmond, Va., and
representing himself as an agent for the Circus
them, was arrested yesterday by otlicers Al
len Russell and J.C. Blanch, charged with
atealing a watch from a boarder at his hoard
ing house in Broughton street, and fully com
mitted to jail by Justice Levi 8. Hart. This
individual has frequently been iu this city of
late, where lie 1ms purchased horaca for the
Circus, os he aliedged, and succeeded in bor
rowing money from several persons. In his
possession was also found a stick which is the
property of a gentleman of this city.
Mr. Webster holds this doctrine, if he docs
not go further in his Greek speech, which he
renflirmed “ terbum port rerbutn,” iu hid ban
quet speech ; but lie would perhaps oppose
any action on the subject by Congress at this
time us unnecessary nnd menacing. Mr. Ca>p
holding the same views with Mr. Webster iu
regard to the principle involved, would give
that principle the forco and vitality of uu au*
thoritntive declaration of the Cougicss of the
United States. Tho principle is the true
American principle, and may not sufely ho at
tacked by any party, hut the policy und ex

Congress is a question to he deliberated. If
circumstances should force tho necessity of
congtessional action, which is likely to he the
case if the discussion is continued by the op
ponents of the principlo in tho same spirit

tire action would, wc believe, he tho only
action eonsonunt with tho sentiments of a
largo majority of the American people. The
question being agitated, even silence on the
part of Congress, if it is to he construed as as
senting to the arrogant assumptions of the
powers intervening against free government,
would not he tolcrutcd by n proud, sensitive
peopla like our own. On this subject the
