WINTER IRON WORKS,
lUonr^omery, Alabama, 8cpt. i, 1834.
f I THESE Works, employing 150 hands, construct
JL an averago of an Eugiue weekly—and beg attention
oi Mill owners to the most valuable improvement in
Mill Machinery of the day, and ao warranted—to wit:
COOPER’8 PATENT UPRIGHT AND
DIRECT ACTING SINGLE AND
GANGSAW MILL ENG11NE.
EMBRACING (W1NH OTilEK VALUABLE IMl’KOVEUKNTS)
HUXIE’S PATENT CONTINUOUS FEEDWOHKS
An incomparably superior substitute for the Hag Wheel.
The peculiar principle from which tho above Mill de
rives its greatest merit, is more espeoially valuable in
its application to the Gang Haw frame. The Engine
at. ads immediately underneath the Hash, to which the
Piston Rod is directly attached. The motion of the
hash is thus direotly controlled by the steam in tho
cylindor, and by the introduction ct this at a particular
point, the force of both the up and downward stroke(usu-
jilly failing with suuh jarring effects ou the plumber
blocks and wrist pins,) is entirely arrested, the Sash
being thus always suspended as it were on tho Hteaui,
relieving thereby the journals and wrist, (so liablo to
beat in the usual application) of all heating teudoncy.
By virtue of this principle, practical demonstration
cun be furnished that tlieso mills are capnble of an ea
sy speed of 200 revolutions per minute, aud at this
speed aro nearly noiseless; the cut of the saws beiug
almost alone heard. A commou speed for tho Bingle
saw under this application is from 250 to 300 revolu
tions por minute f ” lie style in which these Engines
and their appurtenances are gotten up, is superior
throughout, while tho mill in its desigu, embodies eve
ry practical aud well tried improvement extant. The
Lugiuo aud other work from this establishment is not
style or workmunship is udmitted! This point is reudi-
ly conceded by all who visit those very extensive
works.
Attention is also called to
Cooper’M “ Strictly Portable and Vibra
tory” Circular Suw Mill;
which may be hauled with entire facility, from point to
point, at pleasure, by four horses; aud is warranted su
