THE relaxing heats of aummer loavo be-
hind them a long train or ovila. The
uaivoraal of tboae are general debility, and its
iUendant, lowneaa of spirits. For thaae we can recom
mend a apeedy and unfailing cure, in the ahape of
Uoofland'a German Bittera, prepared by Dr. C. hi.
Jackson, Philadelphia. It is, in our opinion, a medicine
(H i generis—alone—unapproachable. It seems to reach
the fountain head of tbo difficulty in the digestive or
ganisation, and thua to relieve the sooretiona and the
blood of the maceriss mort>i, or the causo of disease.
Its tonlo properties givo vigor to the mombranes of th#
stomach, and promote the accretion of the gastrio juice,
w bioh dissolves the food, while its oordial, soothing, and
alternative influence lmparto general regularity and
strength to the action of the secretive organs, and
seems to fortify the constitution. Such is our owi
perience of its effects, and we believe it la eonHrmed by
the evidence of all who have tried it, or had an oppor
tunity of witnessing its operation. For aale by Dr.
Jiixrfox, 130 Aroh-aereet, and by Druggists generally.

Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps,
riMIK above-uamod prcpuruiiuu hue become exton-
X slvely known throughout the length and breadth
01 the United States, aud is universally admitted to be
the moat delightfu), healthlul, iuvigorating and pure
preparation or the tuniper berry, that science, and a
long practice in the aistillation and preparation of pure
liquors has ever tucoeeded in prodnoing.
A long-ostsblishod manufacturer and imnortor of
liquors or evory doccription, the undersigned devoted
himself to the production of an articlo of pure Gin,
which should prove a valuable ageut in the cure of tho
manifold diseases which afflict the human race, and for
which Uollaud Gin has boon prescribed by tho inedloal
faculty for years. At length his effort* were crowned
with uuooess, at his extensive distillery in Hohledam,
Holland, from which plaoo the purest Glu has long beeu
imported, ami he was enabled to give to the world his
Schnapps, which, for purity, and entire freedom from
the pormoioua fusel oil aud all other uoxiuus ingre
dients, and delightful aromatic flavor, has never been
equaled, and cannot bo excelled.
lu order to protect himself from pecuniary loss at tho
hands of cheat*, imposters and pirates, who would un
questionably attempt to palm off a vile and spurious
artiole upon the unsuspecting community, aud, like the
wolf in eboop's clothing, prey upon their very vitals, he
resorted to the expedient ot Importing aud selling his
Sobnapps only in pint aud quart bottles.
These bottles are of glass, stampod with tho name of
tbo manufacturer: are corked and sealed, and have
printed labels bearing the signature of Uoolfbo Wulfb
upon them. They are also inolosed in colored wrap
pers, elso bearing his signature, in whloh form alone
they can be obtained in cases, oomaining two doien
bottles each.
NotwitfistaadingaU tbeso guards, unprincipled par
ties have been found guilty of tho unwarrantable and
criminal practice tf buying up empty bottles, filling
thorn with vile common gin, wniohis tho most psrui-
oious poison with which a community was ever cursed,
aud sends thousands to a wretched drunkard's grave
yearly.
It is only necessary, therefore, for those who purchase
the artiole by retail, or drink it at publie places, to
mark well the appearanoe of the bottles from which
they drink. Caution is aeoosssry.
The Schnapps have, been introduced but abou
years, but in that brief time their virtues have been
acknowledged to an almoet incredible extent, until itis
a matter of some difficulty to keep up a supply ade
quate to the dsmaad, so fast aro ordora pouring in from
every State and territory in the Union, from Maine to
O/ogon and California.
Determined that the virtuoe of the Schnapps should
bo thoroughly substantiated by tho most uudouiable and
unquestionable testimonials, circulars wore dmputched
to evory regular member of the Medical Faculty aud
professional Chemist whose name could be obtained,
soliciting tueir acceptance of a bottle of the Sobnapps,
with a view of enabling tha*u to test iu medicinal qual
ities in their pr*ctioe, and submit it to the strictest
chemical analysis in their laboratories.
Or the ton tnousand physicians and ohomiste in the
United States, auout four thousand accepted the offer.
Upwards or two thousand have promptly furnished their
written endorsement that the article is all that U
claimed for it, and in th* strongest language recom
mended iU general use, not only os a remedial agent,
but a delightful, harmless and pleasant beverage —
These voluntary endorsements are from gentlemen of
unquestionable knowledge and the inostporfaetsoience.
Nor alone have practitioners and chemists furnished
their testimonials. The publio press, in almost every
principal city and town, has boldly spoken lu ite favor
m ite editorial columns.
The New York Medical Qasette and Journal of
Uealth, high authority, has repeatedly proclaimed its
excellence, la tho July number of that Journal, Dr.
Hoeae its accomplished editor, has publicly invited a
discussion upon the subject of the use of alcoholio mix
tures, medicinally, in his widoly circulating columns,
and the views of the medical faculty inreterenoo to lay
Schnapps, in particular, giving an assurance that they
should bo sproad before the publio. Physician*, there
fore, who have not already complied with my requeat to
forward uie their opinion, as to its qualities, wilt obiigo
e by duiugso through th* editor of Medical Gsselte.
Were it necessary to do more than simply state this
fact, whioh he who runs max read, this bomplil«t could
be increr *»-4 to an indefinite length by the publication
of these authorities, all on file at the warerooms of the
proprietor, in Now York.
Itis not only as a remedial agent that the Schnapps
to be recommended, but as a gentle and perfectly
harmless stimulant, whioh oacnot be otherwise but
healthful and invigorating, and may be indulged in
with impunity by tboso of temperate habits, without the
slightest fear 01 the baneful, mournful and horrible
oousequenoesof intoxication—that vice whioh desolates
the social hearth, entails misery upon countless thou
sands, fills our hospitals, almshouses and rrisous, and
sven furaishos the gallows with its deadly fruit.
. In countries where pure wines and liquors can bo bad
readily, and for a mere trifle, '.bey ar* freely used by all
classes, and drunkenness is hardly known—that vioe
to whioh the couplet of the immortal poet so aptly ap-
plies,
" A monster of such hideous mien—
That to be hated, needs but to be seen."
Were Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatio Sobnapps to be
drank in prefereno* to all othor distilled or fermented
liquors, our Temperance Societies would havo loss ar
duous labor to perform, and Horace Greeley, Gough.
Barnum, and tne other learned, eloquent aud devoted
friends of total abstinence, would rarely be called upon
to ascend the rostrum, and oause thousands to listen,
with " an attent ear.” to the great and startllug truths
they relate with such fervid and Impassioned eloquence.
There need be no Maine Law to suppress intoxication.
As long as men and women will persist in drinking
drugged, sriulterated, poisoned liquors, with whioh the
oountry is flooded, drunkenness aud all It* concomitant
rils must exist. We may well exclaim with Casalo—
" Oh that a man will put an enemy into his mouth
To steal away his brains 1"
In many districts of this country, particularly in the
region ot the great western and southern rivers, the
character of thoir waters is such as to produce great
disorganisation of the system, and frequently chronic
disorders ol an incurable character, the enumeration
aad specification of whioh would bo a matter of super
erogation to All those who reside in tbs districts speolfled.
When qualified with the Schnappe, tho bane is neu
tralised or destroyed. This fact has become generally
known at the South and West, and the Schnapps arc
used to the extent of thousands of bottles dally. Their
great reoommendation is their undeniable and well-
established purity, which can be proved by chemical
analysation of the content*, of any nnd every bottle
bearingth* above enumerated evidences of genuine
ness. The proprietor solicits the most rigid tests, aud
defies any person or parsons to prove to the contrary, or
to ^>roduoe^M equally pure extract of the juniper berry,
The publio ar* again reminded that Wolfe's Aromatic
Schiedam Schnapps can only be procured in pint and
quart bottles, stamped, labeled and corked, and in col
ored wrappers, with the signature of tbe proprietor
afflxod; aad that the retail price has invariably beea
fifty oents fo*4he pint, and one dollar for the quart
