was held high. Wool was scarcely purchased at all.
Many American vessels wore in port. Lumber had

$40. The money market was unsteady, with an
upward tendency.

rate, and the people were already beginning to dis

A Nationai. Picture.—-We learn from the New.
York Journalo/ Commerce that Leutxe, the cele
brated historical painter, has just completed the
paluting for which he Is to receive $10,000
from the hands of a private gentleman of N. York.
The subject is “Washingtou at Monmouth,” and
the picture is said to haTo been designed and exe
cuted In a rnauuer which will add to the fame
even Lou tic. Tho painting which is shortly to be
exhibited to tho Now York public, is thus.descrlb-
