'okbtkr, tux Artist.—Wo havo
spoken of the oil portraits oi
ntleman, whose business csrd ap-
our columns. We are pleased to
at he ia meeting with great success,
ivitfg the fullest measure of satis-
faction. This ia nothing tqore than we
predioted and expected from his success
elsewhere. There ia a faithfulness about
hie likenoeeta which must strike every one
who sees them. They are not painted in
the canvass, but stand out bold and life
like, with a remarkable truthfulness to
nature, in every respect. A viait to hie
studio, over the Drug store of 8. D. Brabt-
lxy it Co., coiner of Bull and Broughton
street*, where a large number of likeneasea
ot well-known citizens are to be aeen, will
convince our roaders that we have not
overrated Mr. Fottsrxs'a merits as an ar
list, while those who form his acquaint,
unco will find him a high-toned and cour
teous gentleman, in every particular.
It may he as well to remark that ladies
will fled Mr. Forster’s rooms so arranged
as to ensure them against interruption
while sitting for their portraits. He is
also prepared to execute portraits in pastel,
either from life or from ambrotypes and
daguerreotypes. We sincerely trust that
Mr. F.'-will continue to receive auctr en
couragement a* will enable him to make
Savannah hie permanent home.
New Music.—We are indebted
Messrs. W. D. Zoqbaum Sl Co., (to
whose advertisement we refer the reader)
for copies of the Piccolomini Waltz, and
the Mozart Club Mazurka. The former
was sung by the little Countess, at her first
coneert^in this city, and we need eay no
mors ol it than that it i* embellished with
a fins lithographic likeness of the lair Pic.
The latter ia the composition of a young
gentleman of this city, who has exhibited
rauaioyi genius ot no common order.—
Cow,patent critics, North and South, have
pronounced this piece superior to two-
thirds of the musical publications of the
day. und we trust that our musical read
er* will for themselves test the correct
ness of this opinion. Messrs. Zoobaum Si
Co. hate also received many other new
and faahlonable pieces.
The Union Sooiety Anniversary.
We are pleased to learn that prepara
tions are making for the celebration of the
109th anniversary of the Union Society, at
Betheada, on Monday next, wjtich cannot
fail to render it a meat interesting and
pleasing event in the history of thst hon
ored and venerable institution. During the
past year, undeir the excellent management
of ita officers, the affairs of the Sooiety have
been prosperous, ita membership hue been
greatly inereated, and a new zeal has been
manifested for the promotion of its bonev-
olent objects. Since ite removal to its
present beautiful location, where its prac
tical benefita have been more fully devel
oped, our citizens at largo feel a livelier in-
tereit in ita prosperity. We may tbereiorc
expect to aea a larger attendance at Botlies-
d* on Monday than on any previous anni-
versary.
Col. A. R. UaivTON will doiiver the an-
ttiervaary address, and we risk nothing
when we say that the public may expect an
intellectual treat.
The present conveniences of the place
not being such as to enable the board of
managers to provide a banquet for a large
qumber ol persons and with a view to
economy of the funds of the Society, it
has been determined to invito viaitors to
carry with them such supplies ot cooked
provisions as they can conveniently take in
their carriages, which will be taken charge
of by the steward* and set upon the tables
of the general collation. Thore will be
aome, young men and others, who cannot
follow this suggestion, from whom a pecu
niary donation to the stewards will aid in
providing the banquet
The ladies are specially invited to grace
the occasion with their presence. Should
any who are unable to attend desire to
contribate to the collation, they cun have
their baskets (marked, sp that they can bn
returned,) sent to the counting-room of
Messra. Octavos Cohen & Co., by nine
o'clock Monday morning.
Any further information desired, can be
application to the Stewards, Messrs.
krick Myers and F. W. Sims.

FEVEli AND AGUE-
This trying and provoking disease,
which fixes Ita relentless grasp on the body of a

space of time, and rendering him physically and
eutally useless, can be defeated and driven from
the body, by the uho of Dr. J. HOSTKTTKR’S RK-

with, and the beneficial results following Its use,
have established It as a permanent “Institution.”
W’e would advise onr readers to procuro this valu

What is it 1 How Cured t
Dyspepsia Is our National Disease—weak stom

habit, billons condition. How many suffer with It
and its attendant symptoms of low spirits, bud
taste, coated tongue, obatnplfled head, and attacks
ol" headache I Yet how few know how to cure It 1
Generally, because tho bowels ore constipated, re
sort Is had to cathartics or laxatives. But such a
condition was never cured by cathartics, whose
only office Is to weaken the digestion and impair
the Integrity of the entire assimilative system.
But HUMPHREYS' HOMfUOPATlIlO DYSPEP
SIA PILLS—a simple medicated sugar pill—have
il hundreds of the worst and most obstinate
t. This Is done simply by Improving tho tone
and restoring the Integrity of the digestive organs,
from which result good appetite, regular habltB, a
clear head, and buoyant spirits. Such a medicine Is
gem, and only requires to be known to be appre
