Orphans’ FAIR.-Tho lady managers
could desire no more gratifying evidence
of the favorable appreciation of their gen
erous efforts in behalf of the orphan boys
under their protection, than is afforded by
the largo nightly nticndance and liberal
patronage of our citizens. T he Hall wus
crogvded last evening, and the fair sales
women were kept as busy as bees in tho,
to them, delightful task of waiting on their
oqually delighted patrons. To-day being
“Thanksgiving,” an opportunity is offurd-
ed to tho truly thankful to manifest their
gratitude for »he blessings they have en*
joyed, in acts of charily to tho helpless
orphan.

The performance of Mr. Fleming and Ids Dram

citizens of Macon, wbo»e expectations were quite
high in consequence of tLe universal praise be
stowed upon them by tbe^ press in those cltlen

in the various characters ol Ilaudut, llicheliuu. Sir
llarcourt Courtly, and Claude Melnotte, hat

Mr Editor 1 desire, through the me
dium of the Morning Newt, which has an
extensive circulation in the interior of this
Stute, to endorse the opinion expressed by
the Cruaader, for which this individual
professed lobe an agent, ilia conduct in
this city proved him to be “utterly un
worthy ot confidence.”
I hope the papers ol the State generally,
for the credit of the profession, will aid in
exposing ibis titan, who is still endeavor
ing to pass himself ofl*as an agent for the
Cruaader, and collecting money for sub-
•criptions. W.
What is a Remittance.—A suit involv
ing the question whether money sent in a
registered letter is a remittance, was decid
ed in New York a few days since. Ed
ward Morrison sued the Farmers’ Bank ol
North Carolina for $250, the product ol a
draft collected, and which was sent to him
in a registered letter, but not received.—
The court held that as the dclendunt was
not authorized to remit money instead ot
dralts, as is the usual custom, (he money
mailed to the address of the plaintiff could
not be considered payment, and the de
fendant was theretore liable in the action
The jury found a verdict for the plaintiff
accordingly.
