C.B. Oiaoott Court.—This Court W«| occupied
yesterday with tbs trial of Nicsolw A. Brown, on
a second indlotnisot, Rr sidle* sod abetting in
tho lading of fbrelgo negroes In Georg's, and fbr
holding the same as stares, contrary to tho stsl uts.
We were In the court-room tor a half hour dor-
log the morning while the prosecution was ex
amining the same witnesses and going over the
asms testimony that waa elicited on the first trial.
The oaac, In which there seems to be much lea
tercet taken by the public than in the previous
trial, will be continued to-day. As far as we have
been able to leero no new evidence bearing against
the prisoner has been adduced.
gfcy From all accounts our Southern
climate is becoming entirely too warm lor
abolition sympathizers with Si. Ossawatto
mio. From every quarter we hear of sun
peeled persons being notifiod to migrate to
more congenial regions, while in some in
stances they are pruvided wit! single rail
rode accommodations. The torrents of
insult and abuse heaped upon the South
by the public speakers, preachers and
presses of the North, since the failure of
Brown's insurrection, aro exasperating our
people beyond forbearance. We learn
that a philanthropic book pedler had his
measure taken fora suit of tar and feath
ers in Screven county on Wednesday last.
Tho Athensoum—'J'he New Drop Cur
tain-
Wo looked in at the theatre a few min
utes yesterday afternoon, to have a view
ol the now drop-curtain, which the work
men have jus: got in place. Wc wil|
not attempt to describe it. The scene se
lected is a most exquisite landscape, in tho
painting of which otto of the first scenic
artists in the country has employed his
utmost skill. It is but (aim praise to say
that it is unsurpassed cither in design or
execution by any painting of the kind wo
have ever seen, and that, as a work of art,
the study of it for an hour is worth the en
trance fee to the theatre. We can assure
our friend, Mr. Fleming, that his company
must perform well, or the admirers of true
art will not regret at the tail of such a cur
tain.
We observed during our brief visit yesterday,
that our beautiful temple of the Muses has under
gone very extensive alterations and re-adorn-
ment during the past summer, and we could but
f-el that the lovers of the drama amongst us are
under great obligations to Mr. I'ADKLFoan for the
liberality and good taste which he has displayed
In making ours one or the most beautiful And
oomplete theatres In the Union.
Tho skillful brush of Mr. Sandrkw, the scenic
artist ol the ostablisment, has been busy on the
scenery, drapery, Ac., which is now as bright and
fresh as a Fiery Grotto.
lioHS-MAnx Candies and Cordials.—We were
presented yesterday by Mr. Joan K. Hernandez, of
Broughton street, with specimens of candies and
^ordlala manufactured at hia establishment, all of
which we can commend as very excellent. Ills
lemon candy, In which the fruit of the lemon is in
corporated with the refined sugar, is very tine,
while hta rose and anntaeed cordials will compare
favorably with the foreign manufactured article.—
Ur. II. deserves commendation for his skill and
enterprise, ant we trust will receive a liberal share
of publlo patronage.

our midst.
Dangerous Habit.—The Harrisburg
(Pa.) Telegraph says: “A lody had the
habit of picking her teeth with pins. A
trifling humor was the consequence, which
terminated in a cancer. The brass and
quicksilver used in making these pins will
account for this circumstance. Pins are
always pernicious to the teeth, and should
never be used lor toothpicks.

The Orphans' Fair,—The attendance
*t the Fair, (or the benefit ol the orphan

the liberal patronage extonded to the ladies
who have so arduously and nobly labored

gratifying evidence that their generous
efforts are cordially appreciated by our
cUittens.
u should not be forgotten that the Fair

that some of the moat beautiful and costly
