DariRTusE of the Iroquois.—Greatly
to the regret of many of our-oitisens, who
had not an opportunity toviait .this noble
ship during her briet atay in our port, she
•ailed yesterday tt 12 o'clock for Now
York, whore, wo understand, oho will com*
plate her armament and equipment, after
which she goes to the Meditertneon on a
three years’ cruise.
A targe concoureo of cititone, among
whom were many ladies, resembled on the
Ray to witness her departure. Aa she
steamed swiftly and greuefully down the
river, hats and handkerchief Wave* a fare
well to her officers and crew, who bear
with them the kind wiahea of our chiiena.
Horticultural Curiosity.—'V. Morrl
Esq., presented ua yesterday with a clus
ter of .five pears, about aa large ae goose
eggs, being a part of the second crop this
year from a tree in hia garden. The
aleme of the fruit put out, oloeo together
Irom the end of the limb, a sixth stem iu
the centre, having a sixth peer, but which
is email and atuniad from being crowded
and pressed by the more thrifty outsiders
of the family groupe. Hr. Horel informs
us that Ihe pear* from this tree, when
fully ripe, are very large, weighing 14 to
17 ounces, and are very juicy and luscious,
lie does not know tbo'name of the variety,
but thinks they ere the Bartlett peer.—
Whatever the variety, it ia certainly a very
prolific one, and worthy the ettention of
horticulmriate.
Oglethorpe Light Infantry.— This
favorite oorpa, Capi. F. 9. Bartow com
manding, were out yesterday lor dress
parade, in fall numbers. At the oloeo ol
the parade the company were invited into
the Drill Room, where an ample collation
had been provided by one of the commis
sioned officers of the corps, in honor of an
event of recant occurrence. The beat feel
ing prevailed for several hours, after which
the men vrng dismissed, many of them
wishing, no doubt, that some other officer
