This is probably as fair and impartial a

expected from the pen of an English

full and complete for a work of ifs size.

WT A telegraphic dispatch in the
Charleston Courier, of Saturday morning,
, (but which, owing to some mysterious
circumstance, did not reach us) slates that
Cook and Coppie were emuied at Charles
town on Friday afternoon.
We observo that strenuous efforts were
made in the Virginia Legislature to
have Cofpib’8 sentence commuted, and
that Gov. Wlas exerted his influence with
the Legislative Committee in favor of
commutation, on the ground that Coppie
was less guilty than tho others, and that
he had, at the time of the attack on the
Armory, humanely exerted himself to
save the lives of the citizens taken prison
ers by Brown.
After duo deliberaiion, the Legislative
Court refused to pasa the resolution re
questing the Governor to commuie the
sentence to imprisonment.
