The Fair.—Notwithstanding the incle
mency of the weather, there was a good
attendance at the Fair for the benefit of the
Episcopal Orphan's Hsme, at Masonic
Hall, last evening, and judging from the
interest manifested by the viaitors, the pro
ceedsof the evening must have been en
couraging to the ladies, who have expended h,ra t0 thl “° nl
ao much labor and exhibited so much good
taate in the preparation and arrangement
ol the articles on sale.
The tablet, with alt thairattractione, are,
however, entirely eclipsed by ihe attractions
of the fair attendants, whose bright glances
and smiling faces areaure to warm the "cold
charity of the world” into generous sc-
tivity.
The Fair will continue open during ihe
week. .
The Campbells.—Thore was a full
house at St. Androw’s Iiall last night, in
spito of tbe bed weather, and we have
rarely seen so delighted an audience. W e
mean more than an empty compliment
when we pronounce this company one ol
tbs beat of the kind we have ever seen.
Their instrumental music is excellent,
their singing superb, and their negro ec
centricities amusing and in good taste.
We have never henrd more exquisite har
mony than characterized (heir entire mu
sical programme IbbI night, and have no
hesitancy in advising all lovera of music
io hear them belore they leave.
Cricket.—We learn that a match game
will come ofl' on Monday next (Chriatmus
Day), between the married and single
tnembera of the Savannah Cricket Club.
" As each married man’s “ better half” will
probably remain at home, the odds will be
decidedly in favor of the bachelors.
Athbhjeum.—The glorioua comedy of
the School for Scandal was well performed
last night, to the evident satisfaction of the
audience, Mias Cooaisa sustaining the
character of Lady Teazle in a very credit
able manner.
To-night ihs beautiful play of the Ac
- treat of Padua will be produced, Mias
Coombs appearing in her celebrated char
acter of La Thitbe. We hope to see a good
houae.
8teamship Montoomery.—Since writ
ing the paragraph which appears on our
outaide, Ihe passengers of thia steamer
have arrived by one ol the tug-boats. Wo
learn that there are iwo steamers along
side, and a third was to have gone down
last evening, when it was thought she
would probably be got of! this morning.
II Ihe steamers did not get her oiT at high
water thia morning, (wldch was about two
o’clock, A. M„) the (Disability is that she
will have to be lightened, after which ahe
cun be gotten off without difficulty.
We take pleasure in directing the
attention ot our readers to the card ol our
clever friend, Mr. Jonh Ryan, in another
column. Mr. Ryan is well known
throughout our State as the ntanufac-
turer of Soda Water, which, as he truly
•ayi, "has never been equalled in Savan
nah.” He hat recently enlarged his man
ufacturing operations, and yesterday pre
sented us with specimens of Anisette and
Rose Cordials, Gum and Lemon Syrups,
Stoughton Bitters, Essence of Peppermint,
See., of his own manufacture, equal to, it
not better, than the beat imported articles
of the kind, lie has also for sale Porter,
Ale and Lager Beef, of superior quality, at
moderate prices.
Mr. Ryan, by his industry and enter
prise, has built up a prosperous manufac
turing business here at home, and has set
an example which, if more generally fol
lowed by our people, would add greatly to
our prosperity, by making us more inde
pendent of otnercommunities.
