late Convention:
It Ib whispered about that thb seceders have
repented of their act, uud noiv propose to return
to their adjourned convention at Baltimore, anil

respect the Judgment or patriotism of the seecd-

real devotion to the best interests ol' the States

it pcriimucntly in solution until il ls applied,
without allccting Its strength, and which serve
to give the adhesive matter a tinner hold on the

proceeded to organize a new convention. They
gave In their allegiance to a new hotly anil u

must regard the effort ol the pollcy-maiiegcn

Mr. Douglas regards jfi, 0 secedcre with rial
culouudcontenipt^aHtr domands or the South-
oru States^aj^fiitononicnt for the obstinacy of
their lUduJmi.'a in tho Charleston Convention,
that the people shell repudiate them and semi
other delegates to Baltimore, who will accept
the S quatt.er Sovereignty platform dictated by
his friends and endorse tlielr. nomination of
hlinsolf for President.
We till ilk ivith tile State*, that tho Southern
delegates wno so patriotically awl nobly con
tended for a recognition of Southern rights and
Southern equality In tho late Charleston Conven
tion, anil who were forced by the arrogant anil
dictatorial course of tho Squatter Soicrclgnty
representatives of tho uon-domocratlc States, to
retire from that body, “have no more right to
appear and hold seats at Baltimore than at Chl-
. cage.” We agree with the editor that Southern
men who arc unwilling to surrender the eoustl-
tntljgial rights of the South for the sake of party,
would be as mueh out of place ou the squatter
Rovercignty platform at Baltimore as upou the
Black Itcpubllcan platform at Chicago.
But we go farther. We maintain that the re
pudiation of tho men who so faithfully repre-
eented the Southern States In that Convention
by the appointment of others to. All thoir places
In the Convention from which (hey seceded,
would he an act of humiliating sclf-niiascnumt,
on tho part of tho Southern people, which would
not only Invite and encourage tho aggressions of
our enemies, but would Justly entitle us to their
ridicule and contompt. In our opinion such a
atop, under existing circumstances, would not
only he a gross outrage upon those delegates
whoso course was dictated by the highest and
most patriotic motives, bdt would be viewed
ns a most disgraceful aUantlnumcnl of an iiupreg-
. juble position, the justice of which even North
ern men are forced to admit, and iu defense of
which Southern men should bo united
action as they are in sentiment. / If our
late delegate* to Charleston aro unworthy to sit
v Inconvention upon a Squatter Sovereignty plat.

According to our view, there Is left hut one
