Mu. Viewko’b Oonckht.—Wo were sorry that
Mr. .Viewbo’s nudleuco last night was not a
larger one. lie deserved better treatment at
the hands of the Savaunflh public, to whom he
la known os one of the Buest musicians In tills
country. If ,the audience was not a very large?
one, however, it was certainly a refined and ap
preciative one, and If wo are to Judge from out
ward manifestations, a highly delighted one.
Wo cannot undertake, nt this late hour, to
apeak at length of tho performance. Mr. Vik-
weu’s playing, on the piano ami violin, was su
perb, ami tho singing of the lady amateur In lino
taste. Her voice—a contralto—is scarcely strong
enough for so large a hull, hut she nevertheless
acquitted herself with great credit. The feature
of the evening, however, was the playing of lit
tle Ciiaklie, which waa most extraordinary.—
That a boy of only seven years, and rather small
for his age, should havo glvcu such diilleult
.pieces with such brilliancy of execution, cor
rectness in tlmo and evideut appreciation of his
subject, was most remarkable. With proper tu-'
ltlon and application—and he Is pretty sure ol
both—we predict that he will one day have a
name among the musical artists of the country.

Among the prominent actors upon the nation
al stage from the accession of Mr. Jetl'erson to
IheVrcsUluncy in 1801, to the close of the ad
ministration of Mr. Monroe, Gov. Troup’s pub
lic history is marked upon every prominent po
litical movement and measure of his generation
—always hold, firm, consistent and unwavering
in the support of t he republican side in the poli
ties of the nation—standing by the side of Jefiisr-
son, Madison and Monroe, and always able, fear
less and faithful to the Const itution ami the sov
ereignty of the States.
Ills administration of the government of Geor
gia was marked by a series of the most trying
and difficult occurrences In her political history,
and required tin? abilities, the Uoiimu firmness,
and patriotism ol such a man to steer it through
them ull’wlth dignity nud honor.
