On the first call of the original panel, four Jurors
were obtaiued. On tho second call the Dlstric
Attpmey moved the Court to Instruct the Clerk
to add to the usual wire dire the following ques
tion: “Have you any conselununus scruples
against tho inilictlon of capital punlshmunt for
the offenses charged In tho Indictment against
the prisoner at the bar?”
Counsel for the dclenco objected to the ques
tion, on the ground that It required the Juror to
pass upon the law before he was sworn us a
juror. The defence had no objection to the
question if tho offence was stated as charged in
tho Indictment to be piracy.
The Court overruled the objection, and the
Clerk wan directed to put tho question us stated
to each juror, whose answers in the ulHrinutivc
disqualified them from serving. Thus the
whole of the balauce of the pannel nnd a large
number of talesmen were called to the stand,
and set aside for their unwillingness to lnlllct
cnpital punishment for the offence charged in
the indictment. Eleven jurors having been ob

Sabbath School Pie-Nit:.—It Is known to
nearly, If not all, of our readers that there are
attached! to each of the colored churches in this
city, nourishing Sabbath Schools, in which the
teachers and scholars arc nil colored. One of
these—that attached to the Second African Bap
tist Church—celebrated Us anniversary yester
day, with a pic-nic at Fuirlawn. One glance at
the happy faces of the negroes, old and young,
there assembled, would have gone liir, we think,
to convert even Gkbklev, of the Tribnuc t from
the error oflils ways, If indeed he Is not to lie
given over to hardness of heart. The day was
spent in singing, and in innocent sports and
gambols on the bcnutlful greou Which lias been

doubt if any ple-nle party ever spent their time
more pleasantly.

Tho Address to the Charleston Beooders.
Wo publish this morning the address of the
Southern members of CongrusB to the delegates
who seceded from tho Charleston Convention,
in which they urge thorn to defer the Richmond
meeting and return to the Convention in Balti
more.
Whllo wo would cordially second tiny line of
conduct suggested by those who approve the
nction of our delegates that would “lead to a re
conciliation of differences on a basis of' princi
ple,” and to the united, harmonious action of
the Democratic Party, we are forced to doubt
the propriety or expediency of deferring the
Richmond Convention. The delegates from the
seceding States having resolved toget her at tlielr
meeting in Charleston to meet in Richmond on
the 3d Monday in June, and, having submitted
their action to t heir respective constituencies for
ratification and approval, we feel that consistency
and good faith to the other seceding States re
quires thiij Georgia should send her delegates to
Richmond uulnstrueted In reference to Baltimore.
The Democracy of Georgia, with a unanimity
unprecedented, endorse the prluelptes for which
they contended, and approve their action. Their
patriotic course in Charleston Is ample gnaiuntoe*
lor their fbture fidelity. The delegates fYqrn Lou
isiana, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas,
Florida and South Carolina JvUl assemble at
Richmond. Let pur delegates meet tlieiii there
in couubcI, and if, as we are assured, terms of
“ reconciliation of differences on a basis of princi
ple” is to be offered by the Baltimore Conven
tion, it will be their: -duty to the Democratic
party, to the South, and to the .Unlou, to accept
them, “to return to the Convention nt Baltimore
and old their sister States'!u the struggle for the
recognltibuiof sound Democratic principles.”
While the determination to Ignore the just de
mands of the South for the recognition nnd pro
tection of-her equal rigliis In the Territories Is
persisted In, ?‘tho vacancies” iu the delegations
from thcsceediug States cannot he filled without
^ ImniUtoiipn and degradation. Let us lutvo re-

be alleviated by Bits Liniment, nnd its faithful appli

the horse to travel with comparative ease.
Every horse owner should have this reinedv nt
