. Extradition Extraordinary.
Some mischievous wag, not having ‘he fear of
Gov. Bkown boforo his eyes, assumed the at •
thorlty of his Excellency’s nuu.o uud olllee to
perpetrate a ridiculous hoax upon Sheriff -Vkf.se
and 1 several respectable citizens of Hart county
a few days since. We learn from the Elhertou
filar of Me that on tho 18th lust. Shir III
Nxksb received, In a large envelope from Mll-
ledgcvllle, two documents, the tlrst endorsed a
“Mandamus," commanding him to arrest and
lodgo In Jail the following citizens of Hart coun
ty, viz: V. D. Dooi.ky, B. J. Dooi.ky, Simeon
Banes, P. M. Chow, Benjamin Nkacb, 1). J.
■ Neace, Rvlev Haupeb, A. N. Mastk»s and
William Smith, and to notify tho Sheriff of An
derson District, S. C-, Of their arrest; the second
document purported to be.a “Pcrmlttlmus, au
thorizing the Sheriff of llnrt county to turn said
prisoners over to the Sheriff of Anderson Dis
trict, when demanded In due form by the Gov
ernor of South Carolina. The Sheriff succeeded
In arresting six of the citizens named, whom he
promptly lodged in Jallto the utter surprise ol
the good pcoplo of Hartsville, and, as may well
he supposed, the sore consternation or the un
offending individuals themselves. '1 lie gentle
men thus placed ill llnilio, lost no time In suelng
out n writ of Habeas Corpus, by which they
.were brought before a Court of Magistrates, by
whom the spurlonsness of the “Mandamus" qjid
“Perralttlmua" was soon discovered. Tho doc
uments were very awkward forgeries, and the
seal affixed was Impressed with the eagle side of
a hair dollar. Tho Sheriff of Hart county can
not be very familiar with the grout se ll of the
State of Georgia.

the Squatter Sovereignty fncllon, composed of
a few political leaders and expectant btllcu-seek-

arrogant tone of tiiclr chief aud Ids Northern
organs, who proclaim their utter disregard and
contempt for the Southern Democracy, and
openly avow' their determination to claim the

of all who oppose their platform. Convinced
by tho returns from tlio county meetings, that
thu delegates to the State Convention nt Mil-
